Top 5 reasons to race SPB
I am in the 2nd year of racing a spec boxster and the fields are going on the east coast. We race at Summit Point next week and I started to think what is great about this class so here are my top 5 reasons for racing SPB:
1. Donor cars for under $8000.00 ( I got mine for $4200)
2. Used motors $3000 and trans $350
3. Set of tires $1000 with twenty heat cycles
4.Twenty car fields are becoming a regular event on the east coast. (WG,Thunderbolt and Summit Point)
5.The Guys and gals driving these cars are having a ball and becoming better overall drivers.

Impressive considering how expensive tracking P-cars can be. ETA: Agreed, like the E36 M3, these cars are good cars to learn in and encourage one to be a better driver.

Absolutely agree!
I love the large fields and racing with the west and east coast peeps when one of us is willing to make a haul. The class is popular for a reason so let's make sure to protect it and quickly squash rule breakers.

I have personally been offered "stock" motors that will make 10-20hp over junkyard motors for 20k - I know others have as well. Some have tried running them and been met with scrutiny
Today's header thing another annoyance. So I have to go buy 1,200 revised headers now? I get its legal and props to those reading the rules and finding those things - no bad blood whatsoever - but crap really??
Remember spec Miata before the cars were 75k bare shell builds, we all want to win and many have means to buy those tenths via going right to or just beyond the rules - but let's keep this class great - else I'm buying a NP01

Very curious to hear the take on this from SPB veterans: mmuller provost Gladwill et al.
Also from up an coming shake'n'Bakers who are swatting down old SPB records like my coach Todd Lamb.
Great topic, thx for the post.
Ps: Toyo RRs are DA BOMB so, if for no other reason, SPB is a phenomenal class.

What happened with the aim data acquisition enforcement. This was to be used to analyse performance difference ( especially in spec cars ). The horsepower math channel was off by maybe 1 horsepower compared to my dyno run. I have had people offer that they can build a 210+ hp spec boxster engine, obviously not within the rules. Have the scruts done any analysis on vehicles during race weekends? See page 17 for the article

PCA has checked most of us every which way ...they showed people the data traces on there aim set up from various cars and proved it was driver...
My opinion is you could put Luke,Jpc,Lamb and other drivers who win in a 175 hp car and they will still win...also when I have the front runners in sight and we are drag racing down a straight no one is pulling anybody unlike when I raced sp-2
The key to winning in SPB is to have a mirror handy so when you lose you know where to look....
