The race was an absolute **** show to watch...but I couldn't turn it off. First year I wasn't there in person kinda wish I would have been there despite the crap weather.

Andy Lally's drive from 12th to 1st on slicks was legendary. With 10 laps to go, the jet dryer blew off his windshield wiper and soaked the inside of car. He drove the rest of the way blind and still finished 6th.
Mid-Ohio in the rain is daunting for drivers...but it sure is fun to watch from the comfort of the couch.

It's got the lowest wet coefficent of friction for any track I've got data for...
Have spun my Suburban with eight students in it in the middle of the Keyhole at a school Going about 12 mph! Hahahaha!
That footage is amazing. Thanks for posting.

This astounded me. Anyone with a working cerebral cortex (which clearly does not include NASCAR race officials) would NEVER have race cars on track drive through the jet dryer's output plume

I watched the last 15 laps or so. The announcers kept saying "if [current leader] can just keep it on the black he's going to get his [first, second, whatever] win in this series.... oh! He's off!"

great video clip! thanks for posting. Ive raced on slicks, its definitely nerve racking, but its fun to try and keep the car under you , even if you have to slow down. these guys didnt get the memo that the track was slick!

That track, due to it's continual deterioration, is unusually hazardous...

Exactly, in the wet the normal line has such little grip it is hard to comprehend. What makes it difficult is the rain line, basically everything not used in the dry, has grip, but you constantly are crossing over. Going from grip, to none, usually with a fair amount of lateral making it very tough to judge. The only way to get around is to slightly under drive what you think the car can do, but that is tough because when you have grip you feel like you're giving away tons of time.

Particularly bad when the DRY coefficient of friction is about the same as many newer paved tracks in the WET! Hahahaha!

But for some bad luck Lally could have had a win. Certainly a podium. The announcers sure gave him lots of deserved press. Wish he had a regular seat with NASCAR.
Justin Marks did a great job. He was quick, and I don't think he put a wheel off the entire race.

Between the sealer and the polished surface Mid Ohio is downright scary in the wet mostly because you're never quite sure what you're going to have for grip. It's my home track and I love the place but I won't go out in the rain anymore...you'll see me hiding in the truck waiting out the weather.
