Default Top Tips: The overlooked item to bring to a track day/weekend ?

At my last DE, I noticed a few cars had wheel chocks. I didn't get it. I was later told by my instructor not to use my parking brake right after a session, since the wheels are hot and the brake can stick. Aha! That's why wheel chocks!

I thought it could be interesting to build a list of "always forgotten" items you only remember once you're already there (or have done DE a few times)

1) Wheel chock.
2) Extra sneakers & rain coat (rain)
3) ???

This is a great piece of equipment. It's a cooler that can plug in your ciggy lighter or AC outlet (for example at the track and your hotel room). We always take this with us on road trips. It keeps the food and drink cold for the entire road trip. There's usually an AC jack to be found at the track and of course your hotel room has one (for those places that do not have fridges in the room).

EDIT: Wow, the link I put in this is for Amazon but IB has changed it to Home Depot. Wow. I mean, Wow. The Amazon price is about $20 cheaper!

It's not the pad sticking to the rotor, it's the warped rotors after doing this. Ruined and no one wants to turn rotors these days, so you end up buying new ones.

So the parking brake doesn't go to drum style shoe?

Depends on the car.

Even if it does it's all on the same hub. The issue is uneven heat dissipation as the brakes cool down.

The alternative is to just leave the car in gear, assuming you are parking on flat level ground.

After a session don't park in gravel, dirt, or grass if you can. The tires are super sticky and will pick up anything you park on. And of course releasing gravel from the tires as you drive to the grid for your next session is just aggravating

Always bring a long sleeve and short sleeve shirt (obviously wearing one of them), same with pants. This is just in case they change the dress code for the remainder of the day. It was close to 100 degrees last week at Summit Point, we switched to short sleeves and shorts as optional attire.

Fluids for you and the car.

Car: Oil, brake fluid and of course gas
You: water, Gatorade, anything that helps with electrolytes.

And of course for after the track goes cold a decent cigar and beverage of your choice.

A few things I've regretted not having:
•thick leather gloves for anything wheel/brake and for cleaning tires after an excursion.
•funnel for adding fluids Without making a huge mess
•fluid evacuator pump-if you have too much brake, PS, etc. fluid spilling out
•paper/shop towels
•windshield cleaner

Sunscreen.
Some sort of hat.
A tarp or similar to cover your stuff when it rains. Bring two - put one underneath.
The second car key.

I am not following you. How does engaging the drum brake impact the caliper brake heat dissipation? There's no connection between the two. That being said, I no longer have a parking brake.

It's my understanding that on newer cars (within last 10 years) the drum is internal to the hub mechanism where the rotors sit. Some cars can still use the parking brake in the hub, others can't. Depends on how it deploys. Of importance here, I was recommended to NOT use the parking brake after a track session in my 991.

I just leave the car in gear. After a few min of sitting I'll push/pull the car back a few feet until the wheels are 180* off. Dissipate rotor heat through the pads more evenly is my reasoning.

There was the time at Road Atlanta when a morning coffee fart turned out NOT to be a fart. I wish I had brought extra pants that day.

I rinsed them out in a restroom sink. My student kept looking at the bottom of his shoe, puzzled.
