Default Great Video on Racing Suits and FHR

Saw this from Stand21 yesterday. It's a great video from Dr. Terry Trammel about wearing a fire suit, how they work, and some great info on FHR, specifically how a HANS works.

Thanks Matt! I really appreciate it. We got a hot weekend coming up and I'll be sure to wear the proper underclothing.

So if you have a cool shirt, do you wear that under or over the underwear?

Great question that I don't know the answer to. I would say if it's the Traqgear FR shirt, then you could wear it against your skin without trouble. If it's the regular one, I would wear it over the FR undershirt. No guarantees I'm right!

Personally, I'd want to keep as much separation as possible from the plastic tubing or bladder used in the cool shirt, should a bad fire cause it to melt.

Great question guys. And it's exactly the reason why we created the Podium LCG, which carries a triple SFI certification. The fabrics are certified and we certified it again with tubing onboard, so it is a very safe, effective cooling shirt as is. You won't need to add anything else.

To be honest, there is no "safe" way to wear cotton or poly under the suit. In the future, all coolilng shirts will be with FR materials and everyone is taking a safer approach. It's one of the reaons why we work so closely with Coolshirt. They really understand the safety aspect of things and are gradually moving toward safer clothing that performs as well as the cotton for cooling.

If you can't upgrade your shirt as this time, then at least wear an FR base layer between your skin and the tubing. I would not wear poly anywhere on your body for any reason in a driving event. All of those shirts will be phased out for motorsports by all manufacturers...super dangerous.

Last 2 DE days at Thunderhill,
I wore the Traqgear FR t-shirt under the FR coolshirt.

The Traqgear base layer shirts
are incredibly comfortable and breathable.
