The only effect I feel from 18 wheelers is as they approach me to pass, I feel the trailer being sucked toward their vehicle.

I felt this the first time I towed my 20' CargoPro enclosed. Scared the crap outta me I quickly got an Equal-I-zer hitch and never felt that again. Since upgraded to an ATC 24' and wouldn't dream of towing it without the anti-sway and weight distribution.

I was at a recent PCA event and saw a couple of guys towing their ATC 24's with Cayennes with no sway control systems. They said they had no issues towing with that setup but I would imagine the tongue weight would be fairly close to the limit.
My 2006 Cayenne S has a maximum tongue weight of 616, I believe. If my 20' ATC weighs 3,000 Lbs, or 150 Lbs per foot, then I would think a 24" has got to weigh at least 3,200 Lbs. Now add a 2,750 race car, no spares, no tools, so we have a total trailer weight of 5,950 Lbs. The "rule of thumb" is 10% to 15% of the total trailer weigh is on the tongue. 10% of that is 595 Lbs, 15% is 893.

So you could be under the 616 Lb. tongue weight maximum with a 5,950 trailer using the 10% factor. 15%, no way.

I used a tongue weight scale and have about 600 Lbs on the tongue...I tow with a 2006 Toyota Tundra, 4.7 L, 270 HP. It tows the load without protest of any sort. But, mileage is typically 9 to 10 mpg, a 33% reduction off my standard mileage on 87 octane gas.

Just for fun I may do a trial tow of my 20' ATC with the Cayenne S. It would be interesting to see if the Cayenne S can get better than 9 mpg..noting that the Cayenne S requires premium fuel, that would be 91 octane in California.

I am done with the racing part, but not the Time Trial part. I need the trailer for car storage...we have wire eating mice around...I live in the country...and our cats are a little lazy, all 5 of them. In addition to eating the wiring, the mice also love to move into cars parked long term, and build nests....a mice family moved into a pal's vintage Ferrari....used the space behind the interior paneling of the car for their residence as well as cemetery, and a toilet too. He is really spending some energy (money) getting the stink out of that car.

Now that would be some sort of a mega-tow. Can yu imagine at 9 mpg what that would cost?

BTW, the Ruf oil cooler you installed in my car at your Peninsula shop some 14 years ago is still working great.

I tow my 24 atc with cayenne everytime up and down the coast

No issues - 5-11mpg depending on speed and headwinds

I am debating a bigger truck - just having trouble justifying - the air suspension is awesome for towing

My 06 Cayenne S does NOT have the air suspension. It has a trailer hitch from the factory, but there is not electrical connection that I can see...maybe it's behind a little panel next to the hitch.

I probably won't tow with the Cayenne S until such time as my Tundra dies...it too is a 2006, but with far more mileage, 160,000. Still pulls strong...mileage has been as is as low as 9mph, and has been up to 12 mph (once). It all depends on headwinds/tailwinds and hills with long grades.

In closing, my ATC 20' trailer's details are magical, starting with the "Escape Door" and proceeding on to the "spread axels"....lots of LEDs, and a very smartly finished interior. The exterior finish is excellent too, with great attention to detail. I could have bought a lesser quality trailer for 1/3 of the price...but, I wanted something nice and what really sold me, the "Escape Door", albeit a $1,800 option (worth it).
