Default Enclosed Trailer Specs For Review

After reading all the trailer post on here I can find, taking in all the private and public input I have received and drawing on my own experiences,
I think I have come up with a workable combination that fits my requirements and my budget. The size is a compromise based on how much
weight I feel like dragging around vs having adequate space for everything I'll need. This version is a far cry from where I started a few months ago.

Here are the trailer specs, please take a minute to look them over and see if I hit all the high points:

ATC 26 foot Quest CH405 flat front with 6.0k axles (Aluminum frame)

In addition to the features that are standard on the 405, I'm adding these options:

- built in generator cabinet with vented door on Left front side. Remote start
switch and hour meter mounted inside trailer and dedicated in frame 10
gallon fuel tank
- cabinet configuration with full length wardrobe
- built in fueling station curb side between axles (26 gallon)
- floor mounted winch with trap door
- manual awning
- flush mount L track on floor
- surface mount L track on walls
- 15,000 btu ceiling mounted A/C
- insulated walls and ceiling
- 2 60" wall mounted folding tire racks
- salem vents
- manual stabilizer jacks
- bogey wheels
- safety package
- alarm with GPS feature

I have already purchased an Onan Cummings 4 KW genset, Superwinch s5500 with synthetic rope, and an electric tongue jack. I'll add these
after I get the trailer home.

The trailer weighs in around 4000 lbs dry as configured.

Build time is 6-8 weeks. The dealer I'm working with is giving me a 10% discount which I'm guessing is the customary break for a custom order.

If you see any obvious or glaring omissions please chime in. I have another month to add/subtract options before I place the order.

Thanks for looking.

My friend and I both have ATC 24 footers. jWe both love them. He got the fueling option and has said it is the biggest mistake ever. He doesn't use it. Too much weight to fill before you leave and drag it around, too much hassle to fill when you get there. So he paid a lot for an option that ways a bunch, takes up some room, that he never uses.

Otherwise looks well specd out. Congrats.

- put your batteries in the floor to free up cabinet space
- add infloor storage for things ie jacks, stands etc for the car, shore power etc.
- are you plumbing it for air?
- whatever number of power outlets you're at, double it. make sure you add some outside too
- skip the 26 gallon tank. I too feel that you're better off using fresh-er track fuel. Only reason I did the one for the gen set is I can get and keep ethanol free in it away from home.k
- consider adding a door to the other side of the trailer too, best option I did
- step for the door? I think its standard on the 405.....
- add backing besides plywood for the wall mounted track
- add the heavier duty D rings and make sure the placement works with your straps/ratchets
- on the 405 i think the in floor spare is standard....make sure you can get to it without unloading the car

your 4000 lb dry weight seems a little on the low side. I'll try and weight mine next week, but I think its closer to 5000 and I am 22'. Each battery is 60lbs, the gen set is what 250? winch, 40?

Smile Add an Escape Door

It's about $1,800 and worth every penny. Bottom line, the drivers side of the trailer has a door that flips up,,,the door has the outer fender lip. Once the door is up, remove the aluminum inner fender lining, and voila, you can open your car door and step out into the breeze.

DOOR - ESCAPE - PREMIUM - 88" X 66" - TOP HINGE - FLUSH LOCK - REMOVABLE WHEEL WELL ALUMINUM STEP
ONE PIECE REMOVABLE INTERIOR WHEEL WELL EXTERIOR FENDERETTES INTEGRATED INTO DOOR
20 ft 20 ft

Order the biggest wheels and tires available, 10X in 16", Load rated D I believe.

Forgot about the escape door. Agree that it's a must have. Makes access so much easier and you will need access. Drive car in, no need to fight trying to get out. Put car in gear before tying down, take car out of gear once tied down.

Thanks for the comments.

wireless control for the winch. Nitrogen bottle and/or hose reel
Done. Wall mounted L track with 2 stud fittings that mount a bottle retaining bracket for Nitrogen.

Add an Escape Door
I considered an escape door initially, but was told by more than one person
it's easier on the clutch to winch the car in and out. I'm guessing the
clutch is a weak spot on these cars.

Order the biggest wheels and tires available
Kinda done. I specified 6.0K axles which brings an E rated tire and a GVWR
of 13,500 lbs.

- put your batteries in the floor to free up cabinet space
- add infloor storage for things ie jacks, stands etc for the car, shore power etc.

I specified one in floor battery box and a second box for misc storage to go
with the existing spare tire box.

Had planned to plumb for air and am opting instead to go for a retracting
hose reel.

Have 4 interior 15 amp outlets and one exterior 30 amp double outlet with
GFI.

I wanted a ramp door on the Left side so I could winch in my pit box after
the car was loaded, but with the generator box I don't think there will be
room.

I'll talk to the trailer folks about the backing used on the L track. As long
as it's secured to the frame and not the wall skin, it should be enough.
The L track I'm using on the floor is rated to 4000 lbs which should be
more than enough to secure my pit box. The D rings are the swivel type
and are rated to 6000 lbs

ATC listed the dry weight at 3825 which includes the "coach" battery.
I added the genset (170 lbs), winch (40 lbs) which comes to just over
4000 lbs on paper. I'll have a much better idea of the actual weight
when I get it on a scale.

Layout trailer first then add etrack is my suggestion
The dealer sent me a scale drawing of the trailer with grid spacing so I
can lay out everything and even try different combinations. Since I don't
know what additional items I may be toting around, I'm specifying two L
track strips per side ( one foot and 4 foot off the deck), full length. The
L track for the floor is the only one that requires some thought since it
will be recessed and frame anchored. Would be a real mess to have to
change or add that after the fact.

He got the fueling option and has said it is the biggest mistake ever
Sorry to hear that, I thought it would be a great way to free up interior
space by leaving a bunch of plastic fuel jugs at home. I guess I can rig
up some kind of jug holder over the inner fender well on the Right side
plus I'll save another $1800 deleting that option.

I bought my trailer used but preframed for escape door. I too thought I'd just winch it in and out. It's a bit of a pain in all honesty, and then my car clutch went while on track. Of course, that was the day that the trailer battery died too. Had some guys help me push the car in, but what a pain. Got the escape door installed that week, and it's been great. I honestly don't think the clutch wear is all that bad as long as you're careful. And no more climbing in and out of trailer to pull the ebrake or put car in gear/out of gear so you can strap it down or unload and not have it roll. Of course you can still use the winch even if you have the escape door.

Yeah, great idea until you think about how heavy fuel is to tow around. I bought a nice 2 level jug holder from HRPracingand put it right behind the wheel wells on the passenger side. Holds 4 jugs in the floor space of 2, and it actually looks pretty nice.

Here's what I used for my fuel Jugs-

These are modified jug holders that are meant to mount on a trailer tongue, but worked great as a stacked 6 jug holder. I would have bought the one above had I found it. Cheap though...

ATC has really neat options available. I spec'd a new 24' with lots of options and boy did the $$$s add up. Made keeping my CargoPro original more appealing.

did you consider the V-nose?
Yes. I looked at the V nose style initially because i was concerned with
the barn door effect. Then I realized that effect on the trailer would be
minimized due to the "barn door" effect of the truck I was pulling it with.

Of course you can still use the winch even if you have the escape door.
I'll contact the rep about adding an escape door, I guess it won't hurt to have one.

I like the stacked fuel jug rack as a space saver. I'll either go with that or something like this:

I can mount this over the curb side wheel well and utilize some otherwise
dead space.

I'm experiencing a bit of that "sticker shock"myself.
