Wow. Sounds like he was also very lucky that the response team had their **** together. No room for error here.
That said, ER/trauma docs are an amazing breed. In an instant, someone shows up all busted up, and if lucky, they have minutes to figure out what to do and act when the stakes couldn't be higher.
