Helmet bag advice?

I'm signing up for a driving event that I have to fly to (Endurance Karting's 24 Hours of America race), and I would like to bring my helmet. Are there any helmet bags that can be carried onto a plane? In a perfect world, I'd like to avoid checked bag fees.

Thanks!

I have the Stilo bag and it fits into most overheads, at least on the full size jets.

I'll need a little more info before I can give you a good answer.
If your flight is all on full size jets then any bag that covers the
helmet with a couple of carry handles will fit in the overhead.
Unfortunately, if you have any legs on 50 seat RJs, you'll have
to come up with a plan B because the overhead is too small.

My plan B when I have to fly with my race gear is to put everything
in my normal gear bag (my helmet/Hans bag will fit in my normal
gear bag), then put that bag in a plain 'ol olive green duffel bag.
The duffel has pins and eyelets that allows me to close and lock it
with a padlock. Now my gear is safe and non descrip enough to
check.

Helmet and Hans bag

The new Roux line has some great bags. Their helmet/Hans bag is $99. If you don't have a hans, the helmet/Hans bag top can be left zipped. It expands to fit the hans. They also have a helmet bag for $79

Here is another option from Clark. One of the pics shows measurement.

Thanks everyone - those are some great options.

I haven't booked my flights yet, but I'm probably going to be on full size jets the whole way. I won't have a HANS with me this time (the karts don't have harnesses to anchor it) so that should hopefully make things a little easier. If I can avoid checking a bag, that saves me some money and time at the airport.

I saw the Roux bag at Sebring the other day and it is an exact copy of the Stilo bag which I have. If you unzip one of the "layers" you can fit a helmet with top blower as well as the HANS.

btw - Roux helmets with integrated water cooling look awesome!

I sometimes carry my helmet on flights in a basic Stilo bag. I know you're not traveling with a Hans, but for others -- just keep it separate from the helmet. I normally just latch it onto one of the straps on my backpack (carry on). The helmet alone in a soft helmet bag will fit in most overhead compartments on planes (except for some of the smaller commuter planes). If it doesn't fit I've normally been ok cramming it about halfway under the seat in front of me. Be careful if you have a top air vent on the helmet as it tends to get squished....

If you have electronics built into the helmet, prepare to have TSA to ask you to take it out and show them it while you go through security.
