Default Recommendation for first time track school in SouthEast

Am about to pull the trigger on a 2010 987.2S PDK with 30k miles. Totally stock.

I have zero track experience or formal performance driver training.

I bought this car for the express reason of using it on track.

I live in NYC

Question is what schools or events can you recommend in the SouthEast that I should attend and that will let me use my car?

I'm planning on being in South FL for several weeks in January and I was toying with the idea of driving down and getting a head start at a school while the weather is cold in NY.

Chin Motorsports at Sebring Jun 2-3 and Jan 30-31 as well as at Homestead (south of Miami) the weekend after (Feb 6-7) are highly recommended for first timers (and high timers!).

Welcome to the hobby. You have a great car!

Try to book yourself with Chin or PBOC for January at Sebring.
Hopefully they are not sold out.

Great place to start.

PBOC and/or Chin. You can't go wrong with either.

Also, keep in mind that experience is a pretty good teacher as well. Do yourself a favor and join PCA and sign up for some DE in the spring. If you go on clubregistration.net you will be able to find dates at many tracks in the northeast. Some dates for 2016 are already up.

Since you are a green driver and will have an instructor you will want to sign up the minute registration opens up. There are plenty of "regions" in the NY metro area so you should able to get a ton of track days at Lime Rock, Watkins Glen, Palmer and Thompson.

Good luck!

Chin is good as are the PCA regions. If you want to spend some additional money, sign up for the Porsche school at Barber Motorsports. Get some experience driving someone else's car.

Good suggestions. Def get some inexpensive seat time with chin or other groups before a school. Also, be careful what track you attend if you are working on your driving. Not-so-popular tracks like Roebling are great for learning and offer lots of runoff area should you make a mistake...with the exception of T9. It's a slippery slope!

Roebling Road near Savannah is a marvelous learning and testing track. Restaurants are pretty good in the evening, too.

Congratulations on the car.

Plenty of good events in Florida during the winter.

One (additional) thought, given your experience level, you might consider doing a concentrated, professional racing school.

There is a new school (ie. new business, brand new cars, but very expert professional instructors) - Lucas Oil School of Racing.

They just did their "beta launch" school that my daughter attended, and it is a huge bang-for-the-buck in terms of learning the fundamental skills you will want to have and need (and also avoid learning bad habits). They have schools scheduled at PBIR and Sebring in Jan/Feb I believe.

They use formula cars, but the skills are directly transferable.

+1,000!

Lucas Oil upcoming schools:

PBIR on February 15-18
Roebling Road on February 22-25
Virginia Intl Raceway on March 14-16
PBIR on March 21-24
Sebring Intl Raceway on March 28-31

Once you graduate, you're eligible for the lapping days, of which there are many more.

Bertil Roos also has a Roebling Road school that allows you to use YOUR car.
