Ooops
If you can't afford to walk away from a balled up car, buy on-track insurance

People joke about doing this all the time at the track. This is the consequence.

When I balled up a car on track people suggested telling my insurance company it happened on the streets. Turns out $17,000 (really $11,000 as i got $6,000 in salvage) wasn't a good price for me to commit a felony.
If you're gonna commit a felony, make sure it's enough to retire to an island, ya dip****.

I spent my career in the insurance business working for 2 insurance companies. For a good part of the time I had the claim department reporting to me. You would be amazed the the things people try to get away with. Some succeed, but many don't and the consequences can be severe.

I've actually hard of some people getting away with it too, but the risk is huge. I've also heard of some people being honest and the insurance company covering the loss then dropping the policy.
