Stilo ST4 GT
My Google skills have come up lacking.......
Question is: on the Stilo ST4 helmet, where do the ear buds plug in for radio communication? Is it an internal connection, external; how robust?
My past helmet used an external adapter that failed at an epic rate. I'd like to avoid replicating that experience.

I think you're referring to the IMSA connection to the helmet. The stilos have earmuff speakers (which is what it sounds like you have), but I'm planning on using ear buds that also need to plug in to the helmet somewhere. Trying to figure out how/where

Correct, ear muffs not buds. I can't imagine needing buds in addition to the muffs that come with the helmet unless the cockpit noise level was that extreme.

The ST4 has been discontinued and replaced by the new ST5. HMS may have some ST4's on closeout since they are SA10 rated.
You can actually have the Stilo helmet electronics setup so you can use either earmuffs or earbuds but when most drivers realize they can ditch their earbuds, they just go with the rally electronics. We have a customer that wears hearing aids in both ears. Struggled with his chatterbox and flimsy headsets. He went to Stilo with the Chatterbox adapter cable and said it was the best thing. The sound was fantastic.

Much appreciated guys.
My main concern with the earmuffs is I heard they really restrict sound. I like to hear the cars around me and frequently drive my car by sound when I'm in the mix of it; don't want to lose that.

I noticed a reduction in sound, but I welcomed it as between my car and all the other race cars it was really loud at starts. I have never had an issue hearing mine and others cars in general though. I do have trouble hearing people talking to me before I get the helmet off, but I do not think that is a downside, in general .

Race Car
For my last race of the season this year I installed and used a communication system using ear buds. It took me a while to get used to the attenuated sound. Once I did, I was still able to use the sound to know what was going on with my car.

I use an ST5 with ear muffs and they work terrific.
