Tandy & Bamber Out of LMP1
Shocker: Reigning LM24 Champions Tandy and Bamber may be out of a factory LMP1 seat in 2016.
Armstice between Porsche and Audi results in each marque fielding just two entries. The "third car" is no more...
Hulkenberg I get. He's on loan from F1. But Tandy's from the Supercup and has been on FIRE, including that outright win at Petit Le Mans ahead of prototypes in rain... Bamber's been spotty in the ALMS but he's no slouch either...
Further down the rumor mill: PAG may pull the factory GTE Pro efforts altogether...
I loathe VW. Everything there is about it.

You loathe VW? The company that has multiple motorsports divisions consistently cranking out world champion drives? That's the VW you hate?

Cost savings measures make sense.
The 2016 R18 is more similar to the 919. The front end is dramatically changed, wheel arches blunted like the 919. I've always wondered how two fiercely competitive teams work under one ownership group in secret and if they won't be forced to share costs and R&D now that VW is in pain. If Toyota were more competitive, or Renault put in a factory effort there would be even more pressure to collaborate.

It also revealed that the car will be entered into the 6MJ energy retrieval sub-class, up from 4MJ on this year's model, which finished runner-up to Porsche in both teams' and drivers' competitions in the WEC.
Flywheel energy storage for the hybrid system has been abandoned in favour of a lithium-ion battery solution similar to that used by sister manufacturer Porsche.
The car also features heavily revised front bodywork in a bid to maximise aerodynamic performance.

Cost-control...
It's called "living within your means." Smart move by both companies.

Well, at least he's not sparkling...I hope.
Sad to hear there's no third cars from Porsche or Audi. Especially since Porsche's third lineup won!
Understandable given the circumstances, though. (Still booooo.)
re: Manthey--sounds like they may take a year off for sure. Some make it sound like Porsche's dropping the WEC GT program and others make it sound like they're waiting for the next 911s to come out. Hoping for the latter. That team was doing pretty well towards the end of the year.

Good, I want Tandy and Bamber in GT full time in IMSA next year. They are still young, and Porsche has plenty of time to promote them full time to LMP1.
Tandy was pretty much untouchable last year in the RSR....with Porsche still running a 2 car works team in IMSA, and with the new, stiffer competition coming, they need their absolute best behind the wheel in what is essentially a 3 year old RSR with updated aero.
I think it's a wise decision.
They also need to ensure the 991 GT3-R is winning on race tracks around the globe, to ensure it's a sales success. Best way to accomplish that is make sure you put factory shoes in those customer cars. Blancpain Sprint and Enduro is very important....huge grids, lots of cars, but virtually no Porsche's last year. Porsche needs to sell GT3-R's.....

As a side note I find it interesting that clearly these 'Blunted' fenders must be aerodynamically superior to the traditional sharper swooping type. Would never have thought that on 'face value'.

I met Tandy and Bamber at Road America during Porscheplatz this past August. Great guys. Less than an hour after the " meet & greet", Bamber set a course record. I like to believe it was all due to my handshake. Did I mention Bamber had never driven Road America before?
