I personally don't use it, especially for a DE, but I am curious as to the expense as many people ask me if it's available and how much.
I'm guessing it's done as a fee per 1000$ insured / per event ?
Anyone care to elaborate approx costs ? I know fees will vary between tracks and various insurance companies, just looking for some ballpark numbers.
Thanks in advance !

Thanks for the suggestions as to insurers. I've noticed that the coverage is only for damage to your own vehicle. What about liability for other vehicle and other driver injuries?

You will be signing a waiver that states that everybody is responsible for their own damage, regardless of who's at fault. You will also need to pay for damage to the track, if you cause it. An umbrella liability policy is good insurance and you should have it anyway.

Also, the chance of an incident is almost impossible since this is your first event. Get the insurance and forget about the concern of your car getting damaged. You're going to be slow and overwhelmed, just like the other drivers in your run group. Listen to your instructor and have fun.

First and foremost, do what HoBoJoe says - listen to your instructor and have fun.
With respect to liability, when you sign the organizer's waiver you become a covered participant and the organizer's liability policy covers you. As Frank says, that does not cover physical damage so you still have to pay for the track if you break it.

You're on a racetrack, and anything can happen to anybody at any time, be it "your fault" or not......get it and don't look back. Comparatively small price to pay, and if the unthinkable happens you'll beat yourself up even worse if you don't have it.
