You should really read the rules carefully and talk to racers to learn the nuances of the rules.

Let's take 97-99 Boxter as an example. I am no expert in SPB rules. However, a 97-99 Boxter can run in SPB at a minimum weight of 2650 lbs with driver, using Bilstein PSS9 shocks, spec agreed tires (currently Toyo RR, I think), no LSD, and other SPB requirements. 97-99 Boxter can also run in D class (stock class). You can add triple adjustable external reservoir shocks, any DOT R compound tire (1" wider than the original factory sizes), and LSD. The minimum weight of 97-99 Boxter in D is 2905 lbs with driver.

The rule says some things like brake rotor and pads are free. Free implies OE, but not a specific brand.

BTW, you can put a 3.8 Cup motor and sequential transmission in the 97-99 Boxter and run it in GT class. Few (or no?) limitations in GT class.

I too think that GTC 3-6 are spec classes with minor allowed changes, like no specified shock brands.

My goal was not to get educated on the nuances of every class. I was just questioning the usage of the descriptor "spec" for some classes and not for others. I think I got it for now.

And GTB1 is essentially all Caymans so don't see what's funny about calling it "Spec Cayman".
each class has rules (spec) but that's not a spec class per se
spec simply has tighter rules, boxster all run same shox for example.

GTB-1 is not spec. you can run any shocks, 2, 3, 4, 10000 way adj shox.
just as one example

ignore the word "spec", it's much like saying "hello, how do you do...." a meaningless phrase.

It looks to me from the 2016 PCA rule book the street version of the gt4 is on only listed in GTB3. I am surprised there is no stock classing as there is one for the 991 GT3 and GT3RS.

There will be - just wait until the new 2016 Rules are published. *** Correction, the rules are out and the forgot the GT4. My guess is that it will be in J because that's where the 3.8l Spyder ended up. ***
