Default Going to open trailer from enclosed, arrrgggh!

I sold my 2004 20 Ft. Hallmark, 3,000 Lbs dry, got tired of hauling this huge brick through the air, went to a Featherlike open. This is a whole new way of doing business, man was I spoiled with an enclosed trailer....BUT, I wouldn't go back, UNLESS, I could afford a Featherlite 20 Ft. enclosed and a new tow vehicle, and that's not going to happen...so no I adapt. Take a look at what I had to jam into my Tundra bed....it all fits. I am getting a tire rack in a few weeks so it should be a lot easier to pack in the future.

I have gone through my 3 page pre-track check off list, and I have it all.....sort of reminds me of a scene from Grapes of Wrath, migrating from Oklahoma to Cali in a Model T truck.

And BTW, that electric fuel pump is for diesel fuel...the Tundra is a farm truck.

Default I still love enclosed....don't get me wrong

....but I want "light" enclosed, and I just don't want to cough up $15,000 + for an enclosed Featherlite....just too cheap. I'll try this for a while...if I don't like it...back to the drawing board. As soon as I get my tire rack, all I will need to do is chuck four (4) boxes and the jack in the truck bed, easy enough. The tires will be stashed in their tire rack.

I am getting a light weight box for the tongue, maybe I can get down to three (3) boxes in the truck bed. Actually, the three (3) boxes would fit in the cab, if I have to do that...2 in back, 1 in front.

It looks a little crowded in there because I have a 100 gallon diesel fuel tank in there as well.

EVERYTHING is exposed. I would never be able to sleep at a motel knowing all my stuff was visible and easy to access. Weather becomes an issue. I change inside my enclosed trailer.

Forget it. I don't have an aluminum trailer and it just isn't that big of a deal.

Martin, just run the one set of Nittos on the car... no need for spares or a jack.

Martin,
I'm in the same boat, I just cant justify storing and lugging around a big trailer for my minimal needs. But by the same token packing up a bunch of totes and lugging them around is a PITA too...
This is my solution. It holds everything I need for a weekend (tent, 160cf nitrogen, basic tools, fluids, small spares, etc) It just rolls up the trailer and locks in place with two lynch pins.

Mikey likes. Where did you get the box?

WRT the OP, that looks like the back of my SUV tow vehicle. I'm really glad I got the LWB option on it. I either refer to it as "The Beast", or "The Shed", depending upon how much crap I leave back there.

In January I bought a 20' ATC (new) for $9500. It was a plain box, but with only a few hours labor and max $1000 I've installed cabinets across front floor, storage shelf above cabinets, 2 8' storage cubbies along each side, plenty of e-track, covered the floor with a rhino liner type material and painted the walls. 110 electrical is up next and that will add maybe $300 in cost.

Trailer curb weight when purchased was only 2400. I tow with my Sequoia - no issues at all.

I love my 24' enclosed Carson Racer. It is heavy, but my CD tows it just fine. Could not give up the exposure protection and security. It also is the garage for the race car waiting for the next event.

I would spend the price delta between steel vs aluminum enclosed on a tow vehicle upgrade. Stronger tow vehicle makes everything less stressful.

Decent aluminum trailers are coming downmarket. I got this Amerilite all aluminum for <$8K out the door. 18' + 3' V nose, 2,500 lbs. It's also more nicely finished on the interior than my last steel trailer that was a similar size, and only about $1K cheaper.
