Default Bad day for sportscar fans...

LMP2 is now a spec class. The ACO and FIA got together and decided to move to a spec engine and limited chassis suppliers. So LMP2 is now basically LMPC with a couple of chassis options, even the much derided Daytona Prototypes had more freedom to innovate. This takes place in 2017. No word on where that leaves the Tudor series since things in the premier category were moving towards an LMP2 type class that allowed innovation and cross-over with WEC in 2017. Looks like they will be allowed to race at Lemans but nowhere else. The prototype classes in WEC and Lemans will consist of a few factory cars and a bunch of spec cars, and American sportscars will again be sitting on the sidelines with a unique formula that doesn't cross-over with Europe. Then when the manufacturers pull out in the next couple of seasons we'll be left with a a couple of real prototypes and a gaggle of spec cars. It will be like the last couple of seasons of the ALMS. What a load of crap.

They should all ban together and tell the FIA to go f**k themselves.

Guess Grand-Am officially gets what they wanted all along. The older technology DP being the premier car for the series.

I don't think IMSA is calling the shots at the ACO:

This suggests to me the decision is coming from Europe. It's bad for all prototype Sportscar racing, not just the US.

I would think that IMSA will not follow this. Thus they can revive DP if they want to.

The deal is unless some org on this side of the pond stands up a fights for it, it will just fade away...they don't care so nobody will bother...we already don't matter in the WEC and the lemans prequals are getting only marginal support...GA doesn't care, would rather have a spec series. PC would suit them fine:Chevy motored orecas...why would a mfgr be interested at all...

Endurance racing in the states is dying a slow death of attrition...
