Default What to do with the rear license plate area on a 996?

I bought a dedicated track car and it had a ugly warpped plastic plate glued to the area where the bumpers and license plate was. I took the plate off and need to do something with that area. Is there enough support in the rear cover to just cut that area out? Should I just cover with a thin aluminum plate?

Great place for an oil cooler and tranny cooler.

Cut it out and put a mesh screen. Better cooling/venting. Mike

I'd probably get a fake Euro plate that says something witty... Cut out all material above and below for ventilation. No clue if having a plate there would pass tech though- I just suggest it for aesthetics.

Thanks for the replies.

The trans oil cooler seems interesting but I think it is too close to the exhaust to get any benefit.

I also like the cut it out and put a screen there. It would actually match my RUF nose that has the same feature.

Thanks for the picture Mike. I think I am sold on the screen mod. I post a picture when it is done.

you have a lot of weight hanging back there, you could lose some. Most cut out the area and screen it.

You should do cat bypass. That's 20 lbs there. Mike

I'd also make sure that whatever I do doesn't screw the car over in a race class for down the road. It would suck to have to buy a new bumper cover for that reason.

^ should be a non issue. If that's the case just block it out. No need to get a new bumper. My friend has exact same rear cut off and has raced with pca/poc- non issue. Mike

Made the cut today. I was not a big fan of the Dremel Tool but I guess I was using in the wrong applications. It worked very well cutting the opening out below.

Wanted to get rid of this nonfunction ugly pannel.

Had to using masking tape since it was a black car. If you applied pressure to the side of the Sharpie against the opening it actually followed the contour of the opening.

Used this bit at the highest rpm 10,000

It already looks 1000% better.

Now on the search for some screen.

Charlie Lacy (Dallas area) at Innovative Motorsports built it, using a 12' Magnaflow muffler. He as done a few SP996 and SPB builds.
