Helmet Cam from NJMP - Delaware PCA DE
Did some experimenting with the GoPro Hero 3 at NJMP Thunderbolt. Mounted to the helmet just at the forehead. Thanks to the Delaware Region crew for another awesome event.

Awesome video and great driving! May I ask if your helmet is open or closed faced with a visor? I thought about mounting my GoPro to the forehead as I do with my snowboarding helmet but that would prevent the visor from flipping up on my snell helmet. I see some people mount it on the side but I think your position is the best so I just need to figure out the visor thing.

You could always remove the visor if its a closed face helmet - shouldn't be more than a few minutes work ...
|
It's a closed face Bell helmet. I run without the visor and used the sticky mount right above the eye opening. Simple 2-piece armature comes down and the camera is just out of eyeline where it's safe and non-distracting.

Thanks for posting the video, I'll try and upload some of my own from this weekend. Did you get any footage of running in the rain? My gopro's battery died right as I went onto the wet/rainy track.
|
No bueno for me in the rain. Only had Hoosiers on, and that is a death wish. I was in the paddock during the showers, haha

Nice blips and rev matching. Try the octopus and preceding tight right hander in 2nd :)

Not always, in my experience, but worth experimenting....thats all:) the little short shoot into the octopus is a place where you can really punch the gas, and the car accelerates quicker in the lower gear, as you know.

It was great meeting you. I have some footage both in dry/rain I'll put up this week - but my SmartyCAM HD footage seems a bit dark/washed out versus your video.. :(
I will have to try the helmet cam again - image seems much more stable with Hero 3 versus original. When I tried it a few years ago - I would get nauseated watching the video from all of the jitter. |
Cool vid! Like the perspective...
Here is a vid for Day 1, 2nd morning session, i think, Red Group. Best time is Lap 4 (~4:40 mark on vid).. How do you embed Vimeo here???? I used to be able to do it :surr: Great event as usual! https://vimeo.com/108191220 Car is a 6GT3, stock engine except air filter (came with car), LWFW/RS clutch/PP/etc, and Guards diff, stock suspension, now two year old NT01s ... |
This was my first DE event and I had a blast! I made huge improvements over the weekend, but I have a LONG way to go. I passed my comfort level in a few turns throughout the weekend, but was really confident with this entire run at the speeds I was going.
