Deflating Tires Slipping Through Tire Rack......
Any tips on how to prevent this on a tire rack on the inside of a trailer. If you have a tire that deflates, wheel slips through and falls on car.
No bueno. :to_order: |
Don't you had a rod through the middle of them? Add some padding on the bottom rails to "narrow" the space between them.
|
Put a web ratchet strap around it and the support bars and snug it up or run the web through the center of all the wheels and bundle them all together.
|
Most tire racks you can adjust the spacing of the bars, still need the rod through them. I also wrapped my bars with carpet samples I picked up cheap.

You want to secure your tires when traveling, right? Against them falling off the rack, twisting and falling through the rack, and who knows what else.
So, when you secure them, do so in such a way that they are strapped tightly down to the rack with a ratchet strap through the wheel centers or secured by a rod (also through the centers). That way they can neither bounce away nor fall through. Unless the strap abrades, which happened to me, but I discovered it during a routine mid-trip look into the trailer. I now use a more substantial strap. |
Get a bigger trailer.

or bigger tires.....

The tire rack is padded. Thick padding too. The supports for the rack are chains so not sure how I'd secure a pole with the chains. Have considered that.
Maybe have someone weld a bar beneath then ratchet them down to prevent bouncing out? Or maybe hang another chain from the other chains and run that through the wheels. Wouldnt be super sturdy, but would prevent the tires leaving the rack over the top or falling through (I think). |
I wonder if you could post a pic of the rack?
|
Run a ratchet strap through the centers of them to the back of the rack towards the lower bottom of the rack. You might need to put pins or a clip into it to tie to. It will also keep you from buffing the wheels.
