Nah, Sunday, in the 6 hour WEC race. Apparently it is some sort of big-pimpin' Audi...not sure the model yet.

Spin the safety car? Where does that fit as compared to spinning on an out lap, cool down lap, or a parade lap?

So the safety car I will be driving is an Audi RS5...wow, what a hot rod! Got to take it out in the rain for 5 hot laps at the end of the day today. Discovered it has a TV camera in it, facing...me. So I had better not fvck up. Oh, and they want us wearing full Nomex and helmets. Apparently, the WEC race director wants the race cars REALLY warmed up before he goes Green after a full course yellow. So he told me that, on the last lap of a FCY, he wants the safety car driven at 100%. Yee haw!!!

I wish you could be the official PCA pace car driver! Whether it's the start or a double yellow, they ruin the race and our wet cup engines by going painfully slow.

I wish I could, too, Mike. I hear ya... The WEC race director, whom I met yesterday, is very wise. He indicated that this policy has dramatically reduced the number of follow-on cold tire/cold brake incidents when racing resumes...incidents which usually result in another full yellow period.

Well, the WC race had to be THE cleanest 6 hours race ever. Except for a lap 1 turn 1 incident which lect a prototype disabled, sending us out on the Safety Car, it was terribly boring. Sucks I got so few laps in the RS5 lol. During that Safety Car period, the race director dictated our pace to us on the radio. Allan McNish in the leading Audi had other ideas...pretty much riding my bumper for parts of several laps. Finally the race director said "maximum velocity" right before the restart...and then McNish wasn't able to keep up

Here's the view inside the Safety Car.
