First time to VIR what an awesome track.
So glad I finally made the trip.
Had a blast hanging out with the South Carolina crew. Those guys are true Southern Gentlemen and great racers to boot. They are even better at telling stories, had me laughing my a$$ off all weekend.
Congrats to Mike McMenamin for the overall win in the Red Sprint. Jimmy Martin had a tough weekend, but I suspect he's figuring out right now, what he needs to do to beat Ryan in that wicked 997. It was great meeting Robbie Strickland, good to finally put a face to a name.
Thanks to the Roaches for helping me out with my first time at VIR.
Good to see all of the Dorki guys I met at Summit last year. Intersport had a hell of a paddock area.
Bummed Jim Evans could not make it, I was looking forward to racing with him.
I was right across from Karl Poetl in the paddock, been racing with Karl a long time and its always great to see him at the track. We have a good arrangement, I pimp him for info about shocks, brake pads, oil, ect. In return I yell at him when we have 15 min to the next session and he still has his car on jack stands and is stuck talking to someone.
Here is a video from qualifying.
That's Karl in the 968.

I was (really!) bummed also I couldn't make it. .....combination of work and being sick. VIR is my favorite track and I missed last year as well.
I need to try 3rd in South Bend again next time I'm there....I used to a while back but then kept it in 4th even though it bogged it helped me keep from over braking.
Hope to see you at Summit!

Jim, hope your feeling better.
I think I got lucky with the cooler than normal weather.
Really is a great track, I now know why you like it so much.
Really seemed like a combination of Road Atlanta and Mid Ohio.
3rd seemed to work well in South Bend, maybe with a little more time on the track I would use 4th. I think I could go through there a little faster. I think the Rick Deman video kept me in check there
We'll see about Summit. I might change my mind and decide to do it again this year.

Whatever, I'm not trying to make a big deal out of it...just made for an interesting moment.
So after a few events , are you happy with the switch to GTB1? Car looks great out there.

I dunno if the cup put 2 tires on the dirt...and Doug was 100% fine. However, Doug was passing another car...the cup couldn't wait to make the pass? it's not like someone was right on his tail for position or anything. Just a showboat move IMO.

Same thing happened to me during the enduro, I expected that kind of thing from some of the cup drivers so I made sure to keep as close to the car I was passing in order to give them room on the left there.

just now perusing this thread.
On the OP, Streak, any car other than a mid engine would've spun.
Doug; no center net or containment seat? Got that thru tech?
Streak; you're a pisser, really!

Gosh, I dunno...no suggestion it was in idiot move, just unnecessary and showboaty at a place where the other pass hadn't been completed...a place that also isn't really straight. As I said, it's not as if there were 5 cups within 0.5 seconds vying for position This was lapping traffic, all alone, and could have been handled much more safely & with good will either just before or just after South Bend...where it IS straight.

Not required for PCA racing.
I do plan on installing a center net.
I go back/forth on the containment seat/center net.
PCA requires the small "vent" windows in the doors to be present. That makes for a very small opening with a containment seat installed.
So I think I will go the center net route.
My center net will be installed correctly, unlike numerous ones I have seen here on video and in pro cars on TV.
Can I get out of detention now

Definitely liking GTB. I really love the big fields at most races. And I like being a 996 in a class of mostly Caymans
It's definitely been a learning curve with aero and slicks. I thought it would just be plug and play but that has not been the case at all. Hoosier slicks suck, Yokohama's are better, going to try Dunlops next. Experimenting with different Wing angles for different tracks. A lot more choices than the days of just throwing r6's on the car and driving.

I am racing the blue boxster for 3rd in E class. Craig throws out the anchor at the end of the back straight and I have to go over the curb to avoid hitting Hunt. I think that is when the engine mount bar broke (listen for the loud noise) as shifting became sketchy immediately after that then got worse as the race wore on.
