If you're going the enclosed trailer route, then a quadcab truck would be the way to go, especially if you're going to drive the crew with you.
My 2000 Yukon XL was great with the 3rd seat folded down and still able to seat 5, but only towed an aluminum open trailer. If you get an SUV with only 2 rows, you're going to need to fold that down to put all your gear, toolbox etc and there will be no room for but one person.
Consider the self leveling shocks in the back whichever way you go. It makes a world of difference.

pulling a trailex open with my '12 diesel Treg. Just passed the 40K mile mark in a little over a year and the VW has been perfect.
My dealership has actually been pretty good, although i've only had it in for routine service.

First question is weight of car plus trailer. Can't make an intelligent decision until you know that. I have 2000 lb racecar and 2000 lb trailer, and my 1998 Landcruiser pulls it, but not not up the mountains. Just bought Ford F150 Kingcab EcoBoost turbo with heavy-duty 11,300 lb rear axle. Pulls car+trailer like it's not even there.

I gotta check out gmc Denali.. Perhaps better interior with some blings. I'm heading down a slippery slope. I never expected myself to test drive a heavy duty truck lol.. Only one purpose.. To pull enclosed.. So practical... But so is tracking a 100k+ car.
I'll wait until new design is in the showroom... I like how gm changed int of the new trucks... I have a feeling they r gonna dump older Gen models...

We pull a 20ft enclosed with a 2010 Toyota Sequoia Platinum 5.7.
Air suspension levels the load, active dampers help with sway, and the tow package seems to do the job fine - 65+ up the Grapevine (long, steep grade) in 100F heat without either the engine or trans temp moving.
4 years, 68K miles, lots of towing and no issues so far. One panic stop was a bit iffy, but the trailer brakes did their job and the truck ABS and stability control worked great to keep the rig in line.
The 7 passenger capacity allows us to carpool nearly half a girls soccer team a couple of times per week. Not too hard to park either.
Would a big truck be better for towing? Sure, but it is not right for how we use the vehicle. For us, the Sequioa serves as a great commuter/DD in ways that the truck would not, and as a great family/team hauler on the 42 weekends a year we are not racing.
Cheers,

When I bought my first one the Seller told me that it would pull Texas into Oklahoma, think the old dude was right . My Excursion has 165k miles and I have never done a thing other that routine maintenance. First one had 224k when it was totaled, never did anything to that one either, other than loaning it to a former friend who totaled it.
