Buttonwillow Hotel??

Thinking about driving from Phoenix to Sonoma next week for the NASA race (rental Spec E30 is at the track). Buttonwillow/Bakersfield looks like a good overnight stop. Any decent clean hotels near I-5?

No. Standard is Motel 6. There use to be a Red Roof in, but it got bought out by...... Motel 6. So now there are two motel 6's in BW. The former Red Roof in is a little better, but not by much and they charge more than the standard Motel 6. If you want different from Motel 6, you go across the street to EZ8.

Dinner is always at the Willows Ranch restaurant. Good BBQ. Don't try the Indian food on the end of the strip. Good Luck!:icon107:

Thanks Pete. So when guys go up to the track do they stay in BW or go over to Bakersfield?

Red Roof Inn
20645 Tracy Avenue
Buttonwillow
661-764-5121

Just off highway 58.

Bakersfield is too far out of the way.

30 miles south of Bottonwillow Racetrack on I-5 are several new hotels near the Tejon Ranch Travel Centers. They are better quality than a Motel-6 and are price accordingly.

Last year we stayed in Bakersfield at a Holiday Inn Express. Well worth it in my opinion. Clean, nice, comfortable rooms... much better choices for dining.

mooty 01-29-2013 01:49 AM

no, no hotel at BW.
they all have rats and cockroaches.
i stay in bakerfield or LA.
i was compelled to drive home from BW to SF each night for a three day events once. that tells you how bad those hotel are. btw, if there's a EQ, i guarantee you be dead as the bldg are way beyond repair.

Mark why don't you fly to Sacramento and rent a car? Much saner than driving across the West.... If you have to drive I would suggest going an hour further north to the Harris Ranch. You would and your wife would be much happier there.

If that's just too far then I'll second the Holiday Inn Express in Bakersfield. It's our (POC) host hotel for our BW events and owned by a POC member. You would just take the Hwy 99 fork at the bottom of the grapevine.

Thanks guys!

John, I have an option to buy the Spec E30 I'm renting and will likely pull the trigger if it runs well. So, I'm thinking its cheaper to haul my empty trailer up vs. flying plus shipping. Driving adds one day on either end of the trip.

Good to know that staying at this Holiday Inn is supporting a POC member.

I ended up staying at the new Microtel Inn in Tejon Ranch at the bottom of the Grapevine - actually 45 miles south of Buttonwillow. New, clean, very small rooms, far enough off of I-5 that there is no road noise, but walls are thin enough to hear noise from every other room (TV's, talking, etc). No coffee pots in the rooms. Next time I will go to Bakersfield.

BTW - Racing with 25 other Spec E30's is a barrel of fun!

sounds like this guy is missing a business opportunity opening a hotel at the intersection of the 5 and Hwy 58....

The best options near Buttonwillow raceway are the Best Westerns in Wasco or on Trask just south of the usual exit. Bakersfield is further.
