What a wonderful video; Jack is one of the most interesting guys on Rennlist. I never knew he was a writer, but should have - I've been reading his materials on Rennlist since the days when they came to us by email.
Really great story, Jack. Well done

Awesome video, had a sneaking suspicion it would be this garage. Probably one of the most uncluttered, functional spaces of its size I've ever seen.

Thank you, guys.

I have to admit, seeing my own car from the outside made me fall in love with the thing all over again. It looks pretty cool going through turn 4, and it looked pretty damned 'race car' as it came back to its garage space at the track.

The Petrolicious guys shot for three afternoons, and I was pretty sure that the car and garage stuff was going to look cool, but that I was going to come across as a real jack-***. But they clipped up what I said and rearranged it pretty well so that I occasionally actually sound kind of coherent. You'd hardly notice that I was up most of the night before the interview with a sick kid.

The garage has been a long-term project that started during the Writer's Guild strike back in 2007. The website contacted me based on the thread on the Garage Journal. Believe it or not, that thread on my little two-car garage is approaching 1,000,000 visits.

In any case, thanks for the nice words about the video. Every car guy should be so lucky as to have this sort of thing made about them. I'm hoping my kids (and maybe grandkids) will see it one day and get a better understanding of why the old man spent so much time out in the garage.

Oh, and my very first DE instructor made a point of getting us to set our thumbs on the wheel like that. It was partly to avoid breaking a thumb if the wheel kicked back, but mostly because he emphasized being able to feel the feedback through the steering wheel. He's the same reason I always take out the bottom cushions in the seats.

Obviously a lot of thought went into both the car and its home.

avoiding broken thumbs is why the off road guys do it. I've tried it on the track and it just doesn't feel natural to me but if it works for you, rock it.

Enjoyed this video very much. Thank you Jack and Van. Keeping your thumbs away from the spokes is also advice given in military driving training when going off road.
