While at HANS training at the PRI Show in December, we did confirm that HANS still does all their testing with 3" shoulder belts. You can use either 2" or 3" with the HANS device. If the 3" shoulders are installed correctly, the webbing should wrap up around the neck of the device a little bit and not hang over the outer edge of the HANS. This is also mentioned on page 4 of the HANS quick start guide that usually comes with a new HANS Device or you can find it on their website

Schroth introduced the 2" shoulder belts as they prefer the webbing to lay flat and straight over the hard parts of the body. By using 3" shoulders, they wrap around the neck of the device which is not ideal in the Schroth world.

However, I am comfortable suggesting either 2" or 3" shoulders to our customers.
