Camera car is going for the championship on the last lap ---- he had to finish the race instead of going into the pits. Anything other than the last lap and he should pull in.
Sorry, but "situational awareness" is not limited to vision on track, but circumstances in the overall big picture.
As an example, last November we had the last race of our season and I was much faster in the rain than the newly crowned National Champion who needed to finish high to also win the regional championship. I'm out of the regional championship points, but want to pass badly, so I made damn well I wasn't going to hit, rub, washout or even breathe on him when I get by. This 16 year old needs to know the circumstances of the situation of someone in championship contention and making a late dive bomb on the inside ain't one of them.
