Video NJMP Thunderbolt Enduro

My first PCA race since '04 was really memorable as I realized a lifelong dream of co-driving an enduro with my son. I have hacked around in SCCA open wheel and driven karts but the last 8 years were mainly about supporting Forrest's racing. Now he is off to college after a gap year in Europe, so no more racing for HIM for a while. Don't look to either of us for a display of driving acumen since he only has a total of ~60 min previously in any car with fenders and my only time in the car was the sprint race that morning. Then he misses a shift at the start and gets passed by TEN cars on lap one (after qualifying on the fourth row). Then my stint is a) very short and b) mostly lapping 944s.
But if you were in the enduro, you're guaranteed to be in this video given the three re-starts (two yellows, and counting the mandatory pit) Note the disparity of closing speeds in this race! That GTA goes by me like I'm parked and I expect those Spec 944s felt the same about me...

You guys did a nice job driving that car....it looked good out on the track.

Very nice job! Most people would like to be that comfortable when knocking off cobwebs from that kind of down time.

Ninja, you were off the front and in control of one of those sprints, then in the grass at T1. What happened there?

Gums... i was as surprised as everyone else to find myself in the lead of the first yellow sprint for about 10 laps (mostly because bob went out on wets, and bavarro and jacobs were battling it out behind me). In short, my gearbox hit the crapper this weekend and I was having major issues finding third (you can hear the grinding in my video that I posted of sprint two). Gearbox is out of the car getting rebuilt at Dawes (this has been one hell of an expensive season let me tell you).

Anyway, I botched the downshift into third at turn 1 and locked up the rears mid-corner... never hit the grass, but spun and lost three positions. I caught back up to the leaders, but the race got black-flagged after Kinzi's fire-ball. Finished third in class and fourth overall. Fared better in the second sprint and took second in class and third overall. I definitely was a bit rusty in the first sprint... that was my first race since the incident in May.

here's the enduro race from my visor. It was the most fun race of the weekend for me, and I nearly sat it out:

Brandon,

Welcome back! Come on out here again, and I'll buy the beer.

That "Divebomber" scene is astonishing. The guy in the 944 got slammed and I'm sure had no clue it was coming.

The you're #1 signal to the red 911 temporarily passing under yellow was good too.

Second time that happened that weekend.

He did seem to think using someone else's car for braking was one of your options at that turn.
