considering our experience with the american V8 supercar series and ITE, A6s survive with over 600hp, and up to 30min races. they dont over heat very quickly, they go away near the end of the race, but thats if you are pushing them hard and have the big hp. (we are talking 1:29 lap times at Laguna Seca)

Default A6's

The A6 advantage is also during the first few laps, you can out run the R6's by a second or two. I ran them last year and thought they were great and they lasted with my 285/30/18 square setup at 2850 lb's. Hoosier did change their A compound a few years ago. They are a recommended running pressure slightly lower than the R6.

I ran this weekend with a set of Goodrich R1's and though they were a little slow out of the box, I chased down and passed several cars once they came up to temperature. They did not fall off on me at the end of a 35 minute race. I ran my fastest time of the weekend at the end of a race with a blown 3rd gear synchro.

R1 or R1S ?
The S is their version of the A6.
Anyone tried these yet ? A few BMW guys used them at the last NASA race.

Interesting about the R1's. I have wanted to try some of the new compound, but its's hard to switch when you are so used to running a certain tire(R6). I might try a set for the PCA race at Putnam.

Thanks for the feedback.

What hot pressures were you running?

I got 6 sessions on my A6's- I dont think I will try them again. If I did, I would only use them in the Colder months.

I have been running A6 exclusively since December last year, 6 events and a couple of test days, all but one event competition. I have only gone through 2 sets and I only moved from one set because of a cut on the inner shoulder of a rear tire.

For me 26 cold and 36 hot is just right. Less than that and the tread squirms too much, especially when there is high compression. They are not the same (still fast though) when the temps get above about 80*. However they do last, I have run 1.2 seconds slower than my PB with 18+ HC on the tires. Also have run 10 lap sessions in traffic within 2-3 seconds of PB. I could run a whole race on them.

My car is 3100-3250 (depending on who I'm running with) and about 600 crank hp.

I am interested in doing a set of A6's just for qualifying. 10 laps may be all you need. Heck, I may even try autocross.
If just for Qualifying DO IT! Try to get those first 3-4 laps as clean as possible those, that is where the magic happens. In cooler weather you can let it hang out more, when it's cold, they LOVE it.

Dave, they are better lb for lb in NASA vs slicks IMO. I'd have to run 200+ extra lbs or almost 75 whp vs slicks with NASA. The R80/100 are not worth that much time IMO over a 200 lb lighter car on A6.

I should have some slightly used practice extra's after I complete my stockpile for NASA nationals, if you want to try them for a couple of sessions, let me know.

Dez - shhhh. Don't give away all the good secrets. You're probably running 90% laying down 1:27s at RA - that's why they last so long

You are correct!

Car has another 2-3 seconds in it once I get it to full TTU trim (2970 lbs) and stop coasting through turn 12.
