Side note to give credit where credit is due:
I was a couple of racers (Denny Voss, Mark Barr and Vaughan Scott) that came up with hp to wt concept and developed the rules. They just happened to select NASA as the group to race with since they had competed with NASA in other series.

The transition from racer run to NASA run was not as smooth as one would have hoped.
And yes, NASA was wise to allow GTS to run with them.

Weight aside, depending on the modifications, you could run in K. A friend has a GT3 and because he put one of those Monster carbon fiber wings on he started is in K. Then he figured he might as well regear it. Runs in K. He gutted his car and is still not quite to the minimum weight.
If your car is REALLY 2700 (thats impressive), add your own weight and some fuel. At most you would carry a tiny bit of ballast. Less if you carry a cool suit box. If your tranny hasn't been regeared thats a handicap, but not overwhelming. I think you will get creamed if you go into one of the GT classes 3 or 4 without regearing the tranny.
If you are going to run in K, you might as well put a cup wing on. Doesn't have to be an RS carbon fiber wing.
But what do I know?

Back on topic:
The concept of "just get out there and start racing" is a great one and a good way to see if you like the whole race experience and find out what group(s) you want to race with.
Yes, you are only allowed to change the ring and pinion in prepared.
oops: Just double checked. Was not aware of the exception for the 996/997/Boxster/Cayman:
5. Transmission - Ratio of the ring and pinion may be changed. For 996/997/Boxster/Cayman where there is no alternate ring and pinion available, a gear set for all forward gears not on the main shaft may be substituted if the resulting gear ratios for the substituted gears are equivalent to a ring and pinion change.

I would look at the car counts and set it up for the class with the highest car count. More fun with more cars in your class. Based on what you said, it sounds like the car can be configured for several different classes.

Depends on what you want out of racing. In PCA you are basically lumped into 2 groups on the track, the higher powered cars are in one group and the second are theoretically lower powered. You will be in the first group. When you are on the track you will find someone you are competitive with, they may or may not be in your class. Go race them and have fun. Don't worry about class. Just be safe and enjoy. At most events there are no prizes, just having good fun. The GT classes can get extremely expensive if you plan on being competitive in your class, but then again that can be said about any of them.
Cheers, just my $.02

i didn't make the rules, just sayin...
i had one of those highly modded 996gt3, basically a cup car without air jacks.... it's tough in GTA. but it's still hell fun.

The formula is 165 x 3.6=594 x 426 (minimum GT2 weight) = 2530 lbs.
For GT3 it would be 594 x 5.51= 3273 lbs.

Gentlemen after considering everyones comments, a positive inspection and a thumbs up from Ron Zitza from Zotz Racing who knows the car well and spoke with current owner and shop handler I am happy to say I will be picking up the car tomorrow!
Thanks again for all your suggestions.
