Hotel rooms for Austin F1
Have you guys tried finding rooms for the race yet? It looks like you have to go through COTA. I just made my reservation for a ridiculously overpriced LaQuinta. Where are you guys staying?
If they allow RV Parking anywhere close to the track I'll rent one and drive it up but I doubt that they'll want RV's in the camera shots. |
Wow you aren't kidding. The prices seem to be pretty crazy everywhere that weekend.
|
The place we usually stay, in Marble Falls, that weekend for our 928 gatherings has jacked rates from $89.00 per room to over $500.00 per room. Crazy, but that's how a market based economy works.

Once Austinites figure out how much they can get renting their house during F1, like during SXSW, you'll see more on VRBO and Home Away.

I am going to skip the first race in Austin and wait for things to run smoother. The logistics will be a nightmare and if I am going to spend a bunch of money on a vacation it should be carefree and not feel like a hassle. Traffic and lines make my head explode.
You could attend the Montreal Grand Prix for less money, enjoy an amazing city, and get in and out of the track via a very efficient subway system with no hassles. Its a better option right now. |
^^ x1,000!
The only reason we're missing Montreal this year is because our son's HS graduation is the same weekend. We also attended last year's inaugural Baltimore Indy Race, and though fun mostly, there were clearly some CF's that needed resolving. |
i might rent my Lake Travis townhouse out that weekend as I plan to attend from Houston. Already have some interest from LSRPCA member's that want to go up early.
|
I was originally thinking RV but I think I'll go with VR...

Rob,
I'm saving a spot in our hotel room for you in case you change your mind. |

I ended up finding a hotel just south of Lake Travis for $100 a night so I booked that a few months ago. Can't believe how inflated the prices are but looking forward to watching F1 on our soil again.

Prices, in general, seem way out of line. My old man is going to the Silverstone race for cheaper than he would the Austin race. Seems like they're pricing themselves away from some people.
I really hope this event turns out to be a success, as I love the idea of F1 in the States, but it would be nice to get in for $150-300. |
Here is what I think is gonna happen: these morons are pricing themselves out of the market. Come race weekend in November, there will be a LOT fewer people there than forecast...and thus for 2013, prices will be much more realistically in line.
