2 types of 09 997.2 rear pads styles?
 

I'm seeing two sets of part numbers related to track pads for my 09 Carrera S. For example, rear Pagid RS-29 for 09 only is U-2405 while 09-up is U-8006.

What did Porsche do here? And, how do I know which suit my car?

Yes, there are two types. I think IIRC one is for the open back design and the other for the new closed back design (the former permit pad changes without removal of the caliper, the latter require caliper removal). If you are not sure what you have, best bet is to contact a Vendor here that sells the pads, photograph the shape of the pads front and rear (out of the the caliper if possible) and take a pic of the calipers, front and rear. The Vendor can then tell you which you need (or can check with their supplier, etc). I went thru this with my 2010...FWIW, open back calipers, for Pagid Blacks: U2474 F; U2405 R. GL.

Some wrong info out there for S brakes...do you have standard/smaller (black) Carrera brakes or Carrera S (Red) brakes?

...2005-2012 997 Carrera S (Red) front and rear pads ARE THE SAME.

Here are some part numbers...trust me I've been throughout this owning 2006/2007/2009 and now 2012 997S cars... and don;t want to see others get wrong info

The '8006' part number comes from the closed back design. For some reason the 2009+ .2S apparently also lists the '8006' as a spec'd pad. I got the wrong set initially from my first vendor and had to photograph the pad shapes and the calipers to get the right part/shape. Strange.. but i think the vendors were/are seeing the '8006' as the correct pad type for the .2S from the manufacturers.. I think unless the rears are closed decks the '2405' is the right shape.

Excellent, thanks for the info that makes my life easier. This is a shot of my caliper which is as open as any I've seen so I think I'm good to go.

I have a 2009 C2S and it takes 2474/2405. I also initially bought the 8006 for the rear but had to exchange them.

If you want to be 100% sure and do not mind a little bit of work, you can take the pads out and look at PAGID pad drawings it will be obvious which ones you need.
