How big of a muffler does a conventional PCA race car......

Dan built me an exhaust for my Cup for LRP with a minimal loss of power. No black flags the two days last fall when they gave out many.

Paolo, on my 944, while it's a different beast than the 911, I called the Flowmaster tech support line and spoke with someone very knowledgeable who asked me questions like: what's the displacement, what's the power, how many cylinders, what's the size of the headers, etc. He was familiar with track noise requirements (apparently Laguna Seca is like Lime Rock), and he recommended a specific model for me (it was for some v8 application). I tried it out and passed.

Thanks for the info. Van. I think if I do anything I will have Dan J. and his team take care of it, afterall they know my car well... and I am not mechanically inclined.....

Sound level limited tracks
You are correct in using a custom built muffler system for your car...

I just got off the phone with Flowmaster Tech support and was informed that Part No. 42582 is the most popular muffler for custom Porsche installs, race cars, etc.
A clip from their catalog showing this muffler is attached.
Tech support also confirmed that this muffler should easily handle the output from a 6 or 7 GT3, but that it puts off a considerable amount of heat, so proper shielding should not be overlooked if you value your bumper cover.

Nope, and neither will the biggest Magnaflow made that fits under the car (barely)! I had to stuff baffles in both outlets to pass last year.. Dan built a slick muffler using Burns mufflers and custom pipes that (IIRC) didn't hurt power much if at all...

I have a Borla exhaust on my 968 that's quieter than my 996 with a FabSpeed at idle and it fails the "Sound Police" at LR. It's un-believable.......I use to love going to that track but now it's only for the CR.

Digging this up, as I'm taking a 3.5L 911 racecar to LRP in a few weeks, and I need to build a muffler for it. For my 914/6 I have a single Flowmaster (customized of course) that passes, but I think that would be too restrictive for the 911 as it has 100 more hp. Apparently some people have had luck with the Magnaflow cross flow mufflers getting down to 92 db on high powered 911s but not sure about 88 db. I see in this thread that Dan got some Burns mufflers to work at LRP. I have some ideas to try, but would appreciate any input on setups that have worked for people!
Thanks in advance ...

Scott - i'm no expert but for Limerock you are going to need a restrictive system at some point. I had to baffle both outlets on my 3.0L of a very large Magnaflo. Dan's Burns system, I believe, was on a hot 2.7L engine and not cheap. I actually have one of the Burns silencers (never mounted) left off a system I built using two of them (had the 3rd ready to put on if they didn't pass. They did.
