Default Yet another Nurburgring in-car lap

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkszT...ature=youtu.be

Not in a 997, but you get to see the *** end of one. Can only imagine what it's like to run: 1. there, 2. in those close quarters, 3. at that speed, 4. with that many backmarkers. (My experience would be #2 only, and then in a mere Spec Miata.)

And for the comments that will inevitably follow about what you see at one point, tell us if you saw it coming.

Ouch. I did not see that coming, but I'm no seasoned veteran. The mini driver obviously thought that was it for the blue flags after the R8 went by him, so the GT3 tucked into his blind spot before he (abruptly) yielded to the SLS and took the green and white car out. I like that the SLS driver is shaking his head afterward.

My $0.02:
The mini was 100% at fault for not watching his mirrors.
However, the Porsche should have read the Mini's body language & not trusted him so much to attempt an outside pass. The Mini chopped the Porsche at the apex of the prior corner, indicating that he didn't know the Porsche was there. Then again it's always very clear with 20/20 hindsight.

I think the amazing thing is running that tight with a group of almost equals all while having to deal with traffic going considerably less. It would tire you out quickly.

For those who actually have to work today, you can skip forward to the shunt at 5:22. More impressive to me is the opposite lock at 6:42 (Mutcurve aka "Courage Curve"). You are flat out uphill from Bergwerk at 6:08; in high powered cars you slow some for Mutcurve, it is a real test of ball diameter...

This video is sped up a little, that is obvious. However that being as it may, this is still impressive driving.

Always love ring vids. The Benz seems to spend a fair amount of time at max speed. Seems like it needs taller gearing.

I agree the Mini was not watching his mirrors.

The lap time is 8:38. What DO these cars do around the "full" loop? From memory for the 24 Hours the quickest cars qualify around 8:30.........and they're using the full track, right?

I don't agree that this video is sped up. Watch the gear changes (even though he does move his right hand fingers sometimes more than once) you can therefore equate the shifts with the audio which is clearly not sped up. The engine doesn't sound that quick to rev out as it is, let alone any speeding up of the video.

Mini driver seemed to get confused with the 2 cars either side of him. Definitely way too much speed differential on that track, in addition to the less qualified drivers. Reducing the chance of finishing the race is one thing, let alone the safety aspect. Crazy IMHO.

Mini driver was a sandwich and probably freaked a bit. That Audi checked out and never looked back. That was as close as the MB got. The Audi's video was probably exciting also.

I've driven on the ring and it was a dream come true but I'd have to say I was a bit nervous by the close quarters and dealing with slower cars. Also it gets quite hairy by the mix of experienced/fast drivers and inexperienced/slow drivers sharing that track. Mind you this was a VLN race but it reminded me of what I saw when I was on track there.
