X51 Oil Pan and DE's
I have had on order from Porsche an X51 oil pan for over 4 weeks. For whatever reason, it hasn't arrived. I am hoping to jump into the DE that is associated with the Carolinas Club Race in less than 2 weeks.
My car is a 1999 996 with a late 2005 factory replacement motor (if that makes any difference). I will be running on street tires, not R compound.
Do I really need the X51 for this DE? I have been looking at it as cheap insurance.
Alternatively, would the LN Engineering deep sump be a viable replacement?

I have one of each collecting dust at the shop.
If you decide you need one I can ship either one out to you.
I won't be back out there until tomorrow night.

Mike, thanks very much. Let me see what the dealer says about my order tomorrow. If they can't track them as "in route" I'll take you up.
From your screen name, am I to assume Va Tech? How are you liking TX?

BSEE '88 -- Been here since graduation.
Miss going to the games -- some of the weather on occasion.
Brother lives in the Blue Ridge Mtns -- I could have my arm twisted and move back there,
but I love Austin.
Both are NIB. I was going to make a Boxster S track car before the RSR fell in my lap.
I haven't seen them for a while -- so I'll definitely look for them tomorrow night.

Mike, I think I am going to be OK. Thanks for the offer and if something changes I will get back to you.
And you need to come back to VA and run an event -if you haven't already done so- at VIR.

Never been to VIR
Glad your good to go.
I got the RSR fired up last night and I was giddy as a school girl.
So much so, I forgot to look for the X51 :-( (a couple others have asked)
It was my first Aircooled engine rebuild (top end only but thats 75% of the work!)
I then had to debug someone else's Motec setup craziness!
I've got some other go fast parts for a
Boxster S conversion I was working on
before the RSR fell into my lap -- No need for them now, so I'll have to compile a list.
I know I'll be out there later this week :-) (lot's to do before she's ready for the track)

I had one of these pans on my 911S. If running R compounds on tracks with high G long sweeping turns I sure it helps to keep the oil close to the pickup but who really knows . . .

I just got the ebs baffle for my spec box, don at ebs said LN is making a new 2qt deep sump that works with it. I'm going with the accusump and hopefully that's it.
From some research it seems the full factory X51 includes improved scavenging from the heads, which acts as a reservoir during sustained g turns effectively lowering the oil level in the engine. Both the accusump and deep sump work to overcome this, the baffle just keeps the available oil by the pickup. I wonder if the factory would have saved itself a crapload of money/reputation and made these all dry sump...
