You do both and never look back.
My fondest memories are riding stuffed into Dad's TR-4 on the way to Upper Marlboro Racetrack, watching the windshield come off, helping to tape the headlights and watching him race.
I was 11 then and could heel/toe and double clutch by the time I was 13.

Great advice, but I like to 'know' my car and I thought if I purchased it, I could use it to get my license in.

Good for you - go for it. We've got 2 kids and they are now teens, so hauling them around is a lot easier (and fun!). My son is dying to drive. My daughter "tolerates" the weekends camping at the track, but sure enjoys sharing the stories with her friends. Pretty soon she's gonna figure out how many other father's son's are there
I've been DE'ing for a while now and hubby has a Lemons car. We figure I can do some stints in that and it'll either "kill me or cure me".
Either could prove to be expensive for the family
