Just FYI... If you are like me and have been holding off on VR b/c of the cost Oculus just announced a temporary 6 week price drop. $399 for Rift and Touch. That is much more in line with what I was willing to pay to try it out.

Saw that in a newegg email this morning, is this a sign of a new model being released?

Wondered the same thing but they say it is only for 6 weeks... I think it is genuinely to undercut HTC before school starts For $399 I think the price is right though.

That's a killer price!

IMO the experience is worth the original MSRP of $599 for just the headset. $399 including the Touch controllers is a no-brainer IMO.

I just got my setup all done and started doing some practicing. Wow am I awful. It is pretty amazing how accurate it all is.

Is there a trainer mode where I can race with some computer controlled cars or ghost or follow them?

Thanks
Pete

Yes, you can have a ghost but I think it's of your fastest theoretical lap by segments so it's sometimes a little choppy. Show reference car I think it is.

Yeah - there is no AI mode. But I think the new "time trial" competition DOES offer a true "ghost car" though I'm not sure how the system chooses which ghost to show you.

Best thing I can suggest is - just get out there and practice. Some of the novice groups can be a little sketchy, try not to get discouraged. As accurate as iRacing is with respect to the physics, cars, tracks - go into this with the mindset that it's a RACING simulator, not as much a DRIVING simulator. Start getting experience with wheel-to-wheel and running with guys, that's where the fun is.

Default Wednesdays

Hey guys,

are you still doing Wednesday nights? I haven't raced in the longest time, and I normally have hockey on Wednesday nights, but I'm injured and will be away from the rink for 5-6 weeks.

I'd love to join if possible... is it 9pm?

Sort of. We usually pause over the warmer months. This year we decided to keep it going... but attendance has been pretty low - usually just me and maybe 1-2 others.

Skipped this past week after last week was just Kevin and I. Got home from work and wifey wanted some help with a painting project she started. Realized I didn't book anything until it was after 8pm.

I'm happy to schedule stuff, and attend... but it's taxing to set it all up and then not have anybody attend. Not worth burning the bonus points with the wife to come home from work and immediately disappear downstairs just to run laps by myself.

Post up next Weds, let's see if we can get a roster together, and I'll happily schedule something.

I'll be back once Gigabyte ships me my new video card. They have everything they need now... just waiting for shipping confirmation. I actually miss the close racing we have quite a bit.

I should be able to join back in. *knock on wood*
