Bridgestone RE050A tires?

With the track season coming up, I'm looking at getting some new tires, preferably something more track-oriented than the ultra high performance all-seasons that I had for my first couple DE's last fall. I know that I'm not ready for R-Comps or slicks, and I want a tire that I can drive on the street, even in the rain.

I'm looking at Tirerack's website, and the Bridgestone RE050's look pretty good based on their surveys, but I was wondering if anyone on here had any experience with them? Any feedback good, bad, or otherwise would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!

I used them on my S2000 for 2 years doing DEs - they held up great and were a good dual purpose tire.

I used them as a street tire on my 997S and drove them on the track one time when my race car was broken.

They are a really nice tire at a much better price than the PS2's. Probably +90% of the tire the PS2 is. Maybe even better than that IMHO. If you use the extra ~10% you get out of the Michelin on the road, you probably should be arrested. On the track, you just will be learning car control at a very slightly reduced speed, which is not a bad thing. The Bridgestones are a tire I recommend to folks when they ask me.

I had them on my Cayman, really liked them, even more than the PS2s. They lasted me about 45K mi. rear and about 55K mi. In the front. I did couple of track days with them with predictable results and autox.

But I think the Re01s are even better now. You may want to check out Toyo Proxes 1 also, that's what I am using on the GT3 now, was at VIR and I was really impressed with them.

Thanks guys. Unfortunately, I'm somewhat limited in tire selection because I'm shopping for 16" tires (so PS2s or Proxes 1 aren't available). Based on this feedback though, I think that I'm going to go ahead with the RE050A's. I'll report back on how they work out
