I'm just doing this now on an E46 M3. I used alumalite from a local sign shop...about $100 for a 4x8 sheet. I made 2 out of the sheet, cuz you know you're going to destroy them at some point!

Not the cheapest solution, but I've used Jabroc (skidplate stuff). Methinks it was a bit on the strong side though, compared to the fascia it was installing under.

That alumalite stuff looks pretty killer.

yes, it is pretty cool stuff. lightweight and very rigid.
I personally have become fascinated with composite work. you can fab a replica of your dash by overlaying it with fiberglass or carbon fiber.....presto, very lightweight dash.

i'm not understanding the reason for fiberglassing a piece of plywood. anybody know? it does little to add any rigidity.

if you're going to fiberglass something, do it over polyurethane foam. it weighs ounces and is able to be shaped moreso than plywood (which weighs pounds)

When I did my plywood splitter I put a coat of resin on it for waterproofing. No fiber was used.

What thickness Alumalite are you guys using? I called a couple local sign shops and each quoted me $175 for a 4x8 10mm sheet. OUCH!

Here is a pic of the 1/4" plywood splitters we use. The front bumper is custom, based on IROC but has been extended lower and has a flange to attach the splitter to. If anyone is interested in a bumper like this send me a PM.

On the 'East Coast' I buy Alumalite from Harborsales.net. Typical next day delivery, and about $100.

Garston Sign Supply. They have just about every color imaginable in stock. I usually stick with flat black.

Made mine from ABS plastic - flexible and tough - CHEAP.
Though some work to make - cutting looong edges

Not exactly the best quality for a splitter to have.

Nope. Flexible in the sense of curb resistance -

I bought a sheet of CF and put it below my EVO bumper. Sticks out no more than 3 inches. Bolted it to the bottom of the bumper and it stayed to gether this weekend at the track. Only went up to 130 mph, we'll see how it does with 180+ at Road America. Seemed to balance the rear downforce of the banana wing just fine but then again it was a short track so there is more experimenting to do.
