Default Sonoma/Road America NASCAR weekend - who's watching?

Don't lie about it.

I was watching some of the Sonoma qualifying and I saw that the tires squealed through the last hairpin corner. I always thought that squealing had something to do with the tread blocks gripping and releasing the pavement. Those cars run slicks, so what gives?

Should be interesting to see, 3 of the guys are racing on both days.

I am watching!!

I noticed the same thing about the squealing tires, and wondered what was going on as well... The interesting thing was that they did not seem to be sliding alot when they where squealing. Anyone have any thoughts on why they would squeal?

Slicks will squeal. Not nearly as much as street tires, but with the right conditions/surface, you will get squealing.

I LOVE watching the big cars slide around on a road course. I wish there were more than 2 races a season.

They need to add Montreal (The Nationwide series there is great to watch... I would like to see cars with 100+ more HP, and better drivers there), and probably VIR or somewhere further south. Break the season up with 4 or 5 races a year.

Watching the Nationwide race now, interesting to see the lines they take as I was there a few weeks back. And flipping back and forth between GrandAM.

The compound of the tire also has a big effect in the amount of squealing.

JV did look quite good. Carl didn't have to show as much since he was out front most of the time. But he didn't look sloppy, drove a clean race.

Good gosh, I hate Nascar & Grand-am yellows.

That crowd at RA reminds of the glory days of CART- we haven't seen a crowd like that there for a decade... I'm sure they'll be back. Have to admit I'm not a taxi fan, but that was a great race to watch- I was hoping for JV to pulll it out, but it wasn't to be. Will probably watch some of the Sears Point race but I consider RA my "home" track so it was actually fun to watch those "tanks" slide around. I still don't get why they sit so CLOSE to the wheel though!!

Good to see Patrick Long mixing it up out there today. He had a good run at it for a while.

Had to watch it delayed, had lots of racecar parts to make, but was a great watch!! I don't think today's race (Sonoma) will be quite as exciting, not to me!

JV put an awesome 3 wide move on Edwards and Long! That was the highlight pass of the race as far as the Nationwide race goes.

I'm with Mark - wish they'd do 4-5 of them a year. I love watching those big heavy things sliding, pushing, working the tires... Good stuff!

I think stock cars on a road course is a very unappreciated type of motorsport

How much slower are these big cars than the type of cars we are used to seeing on a road course? I'm watching it now and I guarantee you they are faster than me, but that's not saying much!

The nationwide cars qualified at 2:14 for pole. TransAm qualified this weekend at 2"05.

Fastest at the Road America Club Race was a 2:15 last year.
