hey Z, when I was there last year there was parking where the red X is. Is there more parking by where the black X is, or just the rock based parking by the pit in/out area?

Gravel where the red "X" is, and grass/open field where the black "X" is -- I've seen folks park it where the black "X" is after all the spots in the red "X" area filled up.

Thanks again for the all tips guys. I'm busy running the track over and over in my mind but I'm sure once I see the actual elevation changes that I'll need to reboot.

BTW, does anyone know if there is a sound limit at the track? I can't find anything about it on the website.

We will do the track walk at 5:00 PM on May 19th, with cars loaded up with passengers, driving from turn to turn, as it's a big course and we have limited time on track that evening.

Sorry I have no information about the parking situation.

Thanks.

As it turns out, my 986 has a defective new oil cooler. Very sad.
I'm still going to Monticello but will drive my street car (997TT) and try to be restrained.

Meanwhile, I was there last week for a photo shoot, a group of us are going to be featured in "201" magazine, but more importantly; McMichaels is ADAMENT that there WILL be racing at this circuit, in time. He really heated up when I implied that it's a shame that we can't race here and promised me otherwise.

I'm back from 2 days at Monticello.

When I get my camera unloaded, I'll make a separate post of the event.

Overall I had a great time running at the facility in my 997TT. I believe others have noted that there is not much room for error at this track: the guardrails are close to the road surface and there are no gravel traps (yet?). The facility will be very nice once it is completed.

I was running with stock Bridgestone RE050s which I don't care for! Despite this I think I did a decent job driving. My low times were 2:42 and I ran a 2:43 in the time trial which got me 2nd place (SSU class). A GT-R ran an impressive 2:39 and the two Z06s were far off from my pace. The nice guy driving the GT-R is a more experienced driver than I am and he was running R888s. We ran neck and neck for MANY laps occasionally giving each other point bys. We had a great time talking afterwards in the pits. The 7-GT3 there ran a 2:42 in his class (SSGT). Kenny Conway, my SPBOX builder, ran a 2:43 in his 964 cup. I believe the FTD was around 2:34 in some sort of formula car.

Although I was by no means driving my DD at the limit, once I got the line down I was consistently hitting the rev limiter in 5th gear on the long straight flat out through the kink (?about 155-160 I think) before braking down to about 50 for the chicane. If I was 'going for it' I would early shift into 6th to get a few more mph. I'm assuming this is where my heart rate was highest per lap.

The rest of the track has a large variety of turn types and elevation changes. There are two turns 5 and 15-17 above which are fairly slow. I think the 15-17 chicane should be reconfigured. Even for an Auto-X it would be a tight turn! Turn 19 above is really unsettling and I had to tap the brakes before entering. With some male enhancement I think I could go flat out into it.

First time back on track in 2010.....man it's good to be back in action!

I thought I'd make my addition to this thread.

I got some nice footage driving a friend's car while I was explaining the line. It should help people out in the future:
