Default Racing Advice

So i am new to the whole racing thing and this seems like the best place to start and was wondering where to really start I mean I have heard of like racing clubs like the one in San Franciso and individual events like Red Line Time Attack but I'm not really sure where to start. Thanks for any advice!

What would you like to do?

Normally gokarting is a good start, get within a second or two of the lap record on your local rental gokart track. Or attending DE's and perhaps a race school.

Plenty advice if you do some searching here on the forum as well.

If you have never driven on a track before NASA and PCA do track days all the time call Driver Education (DE or HPDE). You bring your car out and a helmet and they have an instructor ride with you to teach you how to drive on a track and how to be safe on the track. From there you can at least understand if you really want to race or not.

If you do want to race then you need to consider what you will race and which organization. Then based on that develop a plan on how to get there. Everyone is different so what works for one guy may not work for the next.

What car do you have? Any track experience? Autocross? Karts? If you have a Porsche (would assume that's why you are here) join PCA and get involved with your local club. See if they offer autocross events or Driver's education. If not look at Dale's Track schedule and see what events are local to you. NASA may be active in your area, check them out...especially if you have a non-Porsche track car.

Need to know more to make intelligent (or not) suggestions..

Look on this forum for discussions that people comment on the Porsche Sport Driving school, at Barber Motorsports park in Birmingham.

I have been and stand behind this experience 100%. I've also been told by a couple of personal driving coaches, that they do a top tier level of training.

You're seemingly in the Bay Area. www.motorsportsreg.com is run by a friend. As mentioned, plenty of DE events. If you want to go straight to "racing", karting or one of the professional schools at Sears or Laguna.

More details about your goals and what you now have would be helpful.

Or start with a MAXIMUM $100,000.00 budget, then of course spend $200,000.00, then wonder why you can't sell everything for $50,000.00

First thing you need is a great race car and Gary will be happy to sell you his. As Gary mentioned, get invovled in DE at your local PCA chapter and once you get into the advanced group and really have your skills down, then start Club Racing, etc.

Hey I have a similar question and was wondering which would be better to start with, autocross or more of a track approach. I have done some amateur stuff and was thinking of trying some bigger and better things.
