Wiring a utility trailer to a 996 ??????

I posed this in the 996 forum but thought I would X-post here:

Hi Everyone,
I am giving my Will Wood hitch from my 986 to a friend who has a 996. I did the utility trailer wiring in my Boxster fairly easily but I have no idea how to do this in a 996.
Has anyone here done it?
Thanks

I've done it, but I did it purely by trial and error and can't help you with which wires to connect to. But it's pretty easy to gain access to the tail light wires and figure it out with a multi-meter.

Thanks Mike.
I'm hoping that the wiring for his 99 996 lights will have the same color codes as my 99 986.
Good to know that it's easy to access the tail light wiring....thanks! Without owning a 996, I have no idea what the hell is back there!
