I am more than happy to help you here. Good to see you show up on rennlist.

Interesting tidbit I learned as I'm going through my research for the right coach for us. I wrongly assumed a 340 hp Cummins diesel pusher would easily tow anything behind it. Apparently the 340 is mated to a 2500 Allison transmission that only has a tow rating of 5000 lbs. The 350 hp cummings is mated to a 3000 Allison tranny that has a tow rating of 10000 lbs, but is about $12,000 more! Yikes that's a huge increase!

Hey Webbie (Peter) is that you... You are welcome under the tent anytime, although you don't need it as you have windows! I think your CaymanS with some Martini stripes would look pretty good... Then you can join the Cayman Interseries. I am sure you would be competitive.

Jakermc, I hope I have answered your questions. Good luck with the purchase. I am sure you won't regret it.

I took the plunge! Will be taking delivery of a 2008 Feightliner Columbia Class A conversion MotorGarage with 20 feet of living up front and 20 feet of garage in the rear. Was previously used as a tradeshow vehicle for DuPont.

Does anyone know what kind of liftgates the Freightliners are using. Are they normal 5k lifts that have custom extensions. I would like to find a decent box truck with a lift gate that I can modify to use to load a car. My bet is they are the usual lift gate builders like Maxon.

Not sure who makes them but the standard liftgates for toyhaulers and such are typically only 1650 lbs. Mine is rated for 3850, and was a VERY expensive add-on, something like $12K if I remember right from the build sheet.

Reported to have cost about the same as a Spec Boxster build!

Hey jakermc,
Congratulations on the purchase! It looks beautiful. I am sure you will be very satisfied.

The manufacturer of my liftgate is Thieman and it is rated at 4000lbs. The platform is aluminum and folds out from 2 pieces. The liftgate is very heavy and I don't think you can simply add one on to the back of a truck without some serious engineering of the chassis, and not exceed the axle load limit. You might be able to add the liftgate, but then not have enough capacity to actually carry anything inside the truck. I would suggest you call Thieman.

I know these liftgate's are very heavy so the truck needs to be able to match the weight of the lift and the car.

The one you have is a rail liftgate right.

Do you have any photos.
