Castrol Syntec 10-40 every two to three events.
Great article in Grassroots about running to thick weight oil.

Until this year I have been using 20w-50 Amsoil and have been very happy with it. I do 6-7 weekends per year and change it once or twice (starting with clean oil in the spring). This year I had some engine maintenance and my mechanic refilled with Lubro Moldy fully synthetic 10w-60. This is a German oil and I did not change all year and the oil still looks great. I don't know much about it but it stays clean and is pretty expensive. Anybody heard of it?

Has anyone tried the relatively new Mobil 1 Racing oils with higher levels of ZDDP etc?

https://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English...cing_Oils.aspx

On a side note (and to stir the pot a little...) most top level racing is done with relatively low viscosity oils. Given the budget and technical expertise on these teams I can't see why anyone would use a XW-50 weight oil...

Think you summed that up succinctly actually....

Because I don't feel like rebuilding my motor every year?

Top level racing is a different animal, and just because they do it doesn't mean that we want to copy them. If running a thinner oil means an extra 15 hp, but doubles the frequency of rebuilds, most pro teams would consider that a fair trade-off. I wouldn't.

+1. All the new 911's call for 0W weight synthetic so my assumption is they are designed for it. I'll ask Dan J. what he runs in his cup car, but I know he uses 20W 50 M1 in all the air cooled race engines and doesn't waver one bit about it. Good enough for me.
