OMG. That was hard to watch.

Couldn't that K-rail been placed a different way?

Wow, that could be one of the worst tracks I have ever seen. R.I.P. I feel bad for his family, and I feel bad for the guy that nudged him. Can't imagine what they are going through.

Wait, doesn't that make this the best Nascar race of the year? I mean, the fans love to see huge crashes right? Seeing a fatal crash must be the ultimate!

Obviously being sarcastic - and that was horrible to watch, feel terrible for the family. But I think the blame lies on Nascar in general. The "sport" is stupid. Watch Speed Channel commercials for any Nascar race, and the voice over is hyping up the "big hits" (crash video) and "pulse pounding action" (cars bumping violently). It is not racing, it's a stupid reality show set on a backdrop of spectacular crashes billed as drama.

HORRIBLE!

I wonder how the driver that did the "kick tail spin " manuver for no reason, and no pressure, feels?

I can't imagine what the driver that tapped him must be going through.
It is a terrible design but my hat's off to them for their response time. There are there within a few seconds. Unfortunately, I doubt it made a difference.

Your sarcasm is not even remotely funny. The "sport" is not stupid, only closed-minded snootiness is. I challenge you to drive a 3,700 lb 800 hp racecar on 15" rims (and tiny brakes to match) for 3 hours straight w/o driver change, inches apart, at 200 mph. When you can accomplish this racing (and yes it IS racing), then & only then will you have earned the right to proclaim it "stupid".

Shut up now, please.

Regardless of what others think, I think the schmuck who punted him (on a straight no less), deserves to have that move haunt him. Completely uncalled for. That kinda racing is total BS, IMO. The "...if you pass me, I'll take you out BS" is crap. Winning is one thing if it is done with class, skill and respect for other drivers. Pulling that crap is not needed in racing. Not with lives on the line.

Just my .02.

Terrible.

I'm sure the other driver will be haunted but.... you're basically describing the late Dale Earnhardt's philosophy. He would take anyone out at any time for any reason.

Rubbin' is racin' is the whole idea for them. Isn't that why Montoya left F1, he was tired of being penalized for that?

That car must have been going over 150?
RIP Carlos.

The Joey Hand Mid-Ohio crash irked me as well. To punt a guy for no real reason simply makes no sense to me. Paul Edwards should have been penalized (not sure if he was).

Here's a clip of the crash. Joey was REALLY lucky to walk away from this:
