Racecar Preparation - Presentation and checklists
I gave a presentation on Racecar Prep yesterday at our Waterford Hills Driver's School (for racing)... since I uploaded it to my website, I figured I might as well share it here for those who do partake... quite applicable, IMO, to those who track as well as go wheel-to-wheel.
Here's the link to the Tech page on my website:
http://vaughanscott.com/Tech/Tech_Ref.htm
Specifically, the presentation is here:
http://vaughanscott.com/Tech/Racecar...Prep_notes.pps
The checklists, in Excel format for use/duplication/modification, are here:
http://vaughanscott.com/Tech/Racecar...ata_sheets.xls
Hope that helps!

Exactly, Mark, and once you have beer, you'll find it's a lot easier to convince people to hang out in the hot pits for you!

Keep a pressure gauge in the car, hit the pits hot unbuckling as you stop, jump out with gauge and check/bleed outside rear then front, etc. Strap back in and off you go. Yea it's a touch slower then having a helper, but still pretty quick....

I thought of doing that. good idea. Although, the Beer idea might work out better. Now, if i can find room for one more cooler.

Another thing, specifically on the subject of getting tire pressures... if you can't afford one of those fancy memory gauges, you need to get them written down somehow. This either requires a second person, or slows down the deal as you keep stopping to write them down.
We found a better way. We use a cheap digital voice recorder, from Office Depot, which clips to my crew chief's shirt. He then starts the recorder, runs around and calls them out loud (helps to always do them in the same order, obviously) while he's taking them (temps too), then over and done. He can then replay them back later, as many times as he needs, to write them down. It gets stored with the tire pressure gauge and pyrometer.
