Help with sub straps (cross post from 964 forum)
2 Attachment(s)
I've gotten the seats out, and am putting in Recaro Profi XL seats, and Schroth Profi III harnesses.
In the picture below, which is under the drivers seat there are 2 boxes, the one on the left is the Motronic box, not sure about the one on the right. However, the one on the right is right where the 2 sub straps should mount. Any ideas on how to resolve this dilemma? Thanks in advance. |
The deal is to get the subs in the correct direction they need to angle back from the hole in the seat, so you have two options: KB makes bracket that spans between the two front mounting points and provides an anchor to attach the sub to, but with the schroth subs the extra buckles really don't give you enough room, and it's really not the ideal solution (imho) and if you race or time trial then this might not pass tech anyway. The other option is to relocate the boxes to the rear to give you room to drill the floor and add the two eyelets. There is plenty of slack in the factory harness to allow you to pivot the DME out of the way and reattach it to the plate. Then cut the plate to make room to get to the floor. Don Plumley has an example on a 993 that might give you some ideas. http://www.plumley.org/porsche/odd_projects.htm

Thanks,
Well, the box is labelled "getriebesteuerung" which google translate says is transmission control. This is a tiptronic, that will hopefully soon become a manual, so I'm going to relocate this box for the DE next weekend, and figure out a more permanent solution during the transmission changeover. |
I rotated both out of the way and cut a hole in the mounting panel they sit on before drilling a hole in the floor the way Schroth recommend.

I simply drilled two holes immediately behind the controls in my 993 and in the 964 (when it had them posioned there). It met the mounting requirements that Schroth publishes on its web site.

I moved the box and drilled where Schroth publication said.

This isn't PCA race legal but for DE I think it's a good way to go
using GT3 sub bar https://forums.pelicanparts.com/uplo...1237320796.jpg https://forums.pelicanparts.com/uplo...1237320836.jpg https://forums.pelicanparts.com/uplo...1237320861.jpg https://forums.pelicanparts.com/uplo...1237320891.jpg I was amazed at how well this all went together, the stock tunnel side belt receptical just rotates down out of the way when the harness is used. |
