'79 930. Hit ice, broke a telephone pole with my driver's door. Miraculously walked away with a bruise on my thigh.
Good to hear you made it out relatively unscathed. If you don't mind me asking, in the name of science, do you know how fast the car was going when it hit the pole? Were you strapped into a three-point or a five-point (I see a harness bar in the picture)? I've been thinking about integrity of the driver's side structure in an impact like this (or a car nosing into the door on track) and am wondering how strong the side sills are. I ask about the belts because I think that if it was a three-point that may have helped because you weren't so solid to the car....you could deflect away from the chassis as it moved in on you. As we build track cars with deep side bolsters and five/six/seven-point belts we need to think about how rigid we are to the car.

This was my BMW 540A, a fantastic car. Here's the kicker: this shot is around the block from my home, moments after I told my kids to say goodbye to the BMW becuase I was ON MY WAY TO THE DEALER TO RETURN IT AT LEASE END!

Looks like normal wear & tear on a BMW to me!

it was a shame, three years with that great car ended with a punch in the face! Never saw it again.

That's something Seth, Clay and Matt would say!
