Does anyone know if the track has taken steps over the winter to address the wildlife issue at the track? Some of our club members were asking about doing DEs there and my only response is that I cannot recommend that venue until something is done to address the safety.

I think they suggested mounting guns to the front of the car. I agree that they need to do something, I also had a deer run across the track in front of me that was 2 years ago, problem is that it would require some expense to close off the facility.

I heard third-hand that the BSR guys (for whom I occasionally instruct) were going to put up some wildlife fencing with a DHS grant, but am not sure if this actually is true.

No, I'm happy with my wife.
Not to complain or anything, but why would DHS grant money to a private facility, especially a race track? That doesn't really make sense to me.

They pay for a lot of specialized tactical training thru BSR, and occasionally pay for site improvements. This often happens with govt contracts, like it or not. There was a rumor that they also paid for the repave last year, not sure if it's true.

BSR is usually doing training of operatives from one three letter Gov't Agency or another when we are there. When on the SP track, you can often see them in big, old Impalas over on the Jefferson Circuit. when on the Shenandoah Course, it is a bit distracting to be in a turn as a group opens up on the nearby outdoor firing range.

A simple solution would be to let the training exersizes include some deer as targets. A living moving target could add some realism to the training as well as supplying some meat to people during hard times.

They have had a couple of nasty tactical training wrecks due to deer. This is why there is rumor of them addressing the problem for the track (which BSR's owner also owns).

I did the 12 hour race there 2 years ago and a turkey went through the windshield of a Miata and the whole car looked like a crime scene. Later that night, an ITE car hit a deer going into turn 1 and ripped out the whole front end... Place is a nightmare at night...
