Racing Cherry Popped!
My track-whoredom is almost complete! After 8 years of autocross, drivers education and "SuperSolo" - I got my competition license and participated in my first race!
To make my "first time" memorable (and to keep the defloweration meme going) I decided to it as a co-driver in a 6 hour night enduro. ....what could possibly go wrong there?!?! My friend Bob offered me a seat in his 996. We didn't hit the track with the goal of setting fast laps, we just wanted to finish the race. When your track preparations include a stop for Patron, you know its all about having a good time!
My time in the PBOC SuperSolo open passing format really paid off. I was more comfortable working in traffic than say if I only had PCA red/black run group experience under my belt. The Gold Coast Region recently held a night D.E. at Sebring and that really helped prepare me for the event. Its a lot harder finding your reference points in the dark. The worst part is gauging the closing rate of oncoming traffic. Is that a GT3 Cup car closing in on me or is that a Spec Miata with really bright lights?
Thanks to the guys at PBOC for putting on a great race weekend - their 15th Winterfest party! ...and thanks to Bob for giving me a seat!

Here's a short clip from the night race.
...At the time it happened, I was pretty hacked off, but now its just amusing. I set the BMW for an inside pass - I'd let him track out and I'd scoot down the inside. ....too bad he didn't cooperate with my plan! He came across my bow and I flashed my lights to let him know where I was, but he kept coming and I had to get out of the throttle. Then in turn one, he plants himself square in the middle of the track - can't pass right or left! I stuck my nose inside him on turn 3 and "got wide" inside the carousel.
In a lap the red mist was gone and the frosty driver returned to the wheel.

Terry, nice driving. You SS days must have helped, very, very cool.
Racing is not for me, I was waiting for a point by at first and than he did not eevn stay on his 50% of the track!!
Did I see that there some damage on the right rear of the car on Sunday??

No doubt about it - PBOC SuperSolo was a great stepping stone to racing. I was comfortable in traffic pretty quickly. I would have needed Depends if my motorsports experience stopped at PCA's instructor run group.
I like my 50% of the track right out of the middle!
Not me man! I left Saturday night, Bob was on his own Sunday! He got clipped by a sports racer in the sprint race and then he did a synchronized spin with the Cayman S behind him. I helped him drop it off at the shop this morning. It's not bad at all - aside from the cosmetic damage it only looks like a broken a tie-rod. I don't think most sports racers have enough mass to do much more damage.

Like I said, I was pretty hot at the moment and shouting on the comm, but now in the comfort of my home office, it's just amusing.

I hope when I'm "a very nice older gentleman" (quit snickering Christian!) I'm still out there! ....because golf is for kittie-cats.
